Thinking of getting a few of my vintage rookies graded but at roughly $25 bucks a pop, is it really worth it? I don't plan on selling these, at least not at the moment. What is your cut off for grading. $50 card, $75 card or greater than $100. Do you only grade cards that look perfect to the naked eye? Do you grade all your older cards or what limit do you put on condition. Just getting into vintage and I have alot to learn!!!

I use SGC for grading and often they have specials for $6 or $7 per card if the value of the card doesn't exceed $250. I will submit most of my vintage (1910-1950s) cards purely because it encases the card and I like the look in the SGC holders.

For newer cards, I will only submit the cards that I think will have value added if it gets the grade I think it will. I think that is a good rule of thumb. Look on ebay and see what a raw card sells for in a similar condition to yours, then compare it to what a psa graded card sells for in that same condition. If it is more than what your grading fees will be, it is financially worth it.

Some people will have all graded cards in a particular set because they like to register their set with the grading company and they can keep track of their set compared to others (Brilliant move by the grading companies).

Hope that helps! Good Luck!

I buy graded older rookies, I don't grade alot myself. So far I only had 10-15 cards graded and they are only stuff I planned on selling. I never grade pc cards as I consider it a waste of money. MY LCS does bulk grading so we can all pool together to get a better price, its usual $20 total per card.

As a store with one of the largest inventorys of vintage OPC - I can tell you that we have very few customers interested in graded cards. RAW is what they desire. It is the same complaint day in and day out - inconsistent grading. one day it's a 8.5, the next it's a 6.

That's a little pricey,

With SGC for my 1951 parkhurst set I am paying about $8-10 per card including shipping both ways, but I can understand the need for the LCS to inflate that a little. (have sent in a couple lots now, always 10+ cards)

Exactly. Grading is little more than a way to scam people out of their money.

Some are better than others, I've tried cracking open the slabs and re submitting a few cards to SGC because I didn't agree with the grades and they came back the same. Going with ksa can be very hit or miss for sure.

As to the original question, I send in every vintage card I win. (protects my pc cards if I keep them, and helps me sell them if I want to move them) I only bid on nice raw copies however, and I also factor in cost of grading into my highest bid
