I want to start adding some actual game used pieces to my Scottie collection.
But I have never really done much research into what stuff will cost me. I am certainly going to buy a couple game used sticks, and perhaps more. So for you people that collect actual game used equipment, sticks, jerseys. What can one expect to pay for a game used stick, a pair of gloves, a helmet of a player of Scottie Upshall caliber. I have someone who has a lead on a pair of gloves, helmet and his equipment bag .Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Winston.:)

Based on my (limited) experience, with a player like Scottie Upshall, depending on the game use (more = better), photo/video matching evidence (which adds value), and how strong the authenticity documentation is, I would expect prices somewhere around these ranges:

Game used stick : $50-125
Game used jersey: $150-$350
Game Used Gloves:$75-$200
Game Used Skates: $75-$200
Game Used Goal puck: $50-$100

I would love to hear input from other GU collectors, especially those with more knowledge than myself

Jersey and stick range is right. Other parts are slightly high.

Because it's been used and the player sucks thus making the stick less usable ;) I asked this before and apparently the player versions and the commercial versions of the sticks are different. Hence why NHL player sticks break way more often or something like that.

I doubt that is the reason for 2 reasons.

1) Why would NHL players use inferior sticks compared to than those that are available to us through retail outlets?

2) Collectors don't buy game used sticks to use them (not usually anyway), so quality of the stick shouldn't make a difference.

I would say there is just much less interest in game used sticks than there is in game used jerseys.

I think it all depends on the player in question, the amount of wear, whether the stick was used in a game of significance (or can be proven to have been used in a game, as opposed to practice), and the fact that players can go through a pile of sticks every season, meaning they aren't all that scarce, as compared to other pieces of equipment. I believe Pro Stock sticks tend to be far less durable than sticks intended for consumer use, because the design is more oriented toward performance. So if you are buying a used stick to actually use it yourself, you may find that it performs better than the one you buy down at Sport Chek, but it will also probably not last very long in comparison.

Winston, if I were you I would try and go through a team sale if possible. Usually the Wings have a summer sale after the season and that's when the best prices are. Also if a player is no longer playing on the team the jersey's of that player usually are marked down more than normal.
If you were to go through Nashville or the Flyers I'm sure they would be cheaper than if you tried to grab a Coyotes jersey.
For example I bought a Filppula jersey at the Wings team sale for $400. I would think you could grab an Upshall from say Philadelphia or Nashville for lower than that.

I actually have I think 7 game used jerseys.I do need to buy a Coyotes jersey once I can locate one.But I really want a stick from each team he has played with, and of course it would be nice to have a helmet and a pair of gloves. My problem with the team sales is that there is no way I could get there. There is stick on ebay right now.It has a crack in it but that really does not bother me a whole lot.Just need to win it now. Thanks a lot for all the
thoughts,Winston.:)
