I was just at the Toronto Expo and visited a few booths to see what sellers what were asking for a Gretzky auto. I realize there must be some must that are # Beres out of so many which have been produced.

I was looking for when with Gretzky wearing an Oilers jsy auto. What would your thoughts be in cdn dollars would be the cheapest I could pick up one for?
(I’m not referring for ones where his auto is on a say an 80’s OPC card) these would be a UD card or other brand. Preferably UD however.

Please let me know your thoughts.
thanks!

I don't think there's a simple response to this question. Plenty of factors go into determining the value of an Oilers auto...design, numbering, hit ratio, sticker/on card...maybe $300-$400 would be the cheapest? You're probably getting something on the less desirable end of the scale, though.

I have his 2002/2003 UD Rookie Update Auto that I paid $180 for about 10 years ago and I have only seen one in the wild since with a $2,000 price tag on it. His Oilers stuff has really blown up.

Pre-pandemic, Gretzky autographs were available under $100 CAD if you were patient. Those days are gone now.

Most decent on card Oilers autos start in the $400-$450 range and go up from there. You can find the odd one in the $250-$350 range with patience.

I put a premium on Gretzky’s Oilers auto and mem cards. That was the prime of his career and that blue Oilers jersey is one of the best looking jerseys ever. I have four autos in my PC and they’re very intentionally all Oilers. And the majority of my mem cards are Oilers pieces also as there’s only so much out there compared to his other teams and I covet those pieces far more.

But as for auto prices, $400 CAD might be around the floor for an Oilers auto. Maybe a sticker auto could be had for a little less if you catch a quiet auction. You can also save a bit of money depending on the brand and auto set. An on card auto from a set like Stature would be more affordable than something from The Cup for example. There’s lots of choices, shop around and take your time. And try to find an auction vs shopping the BIN listings on eBay because most of them are way overpriced.

Thanks for all of your info. I have found a few which I like. However it all comes down to what I am willing to pay. And I don’t mind waiting.

thanks!
