Guys,

Lately I have been debating on what sport to cut out of my collecting habits. I have grown into Football, Basketball, Baseball, Hockey and lately Non sports.

For sake of my pocket books, I need to cut out at least 1 of these 5..

Would love some input on which one to cut out.. The sad thing is I love all of it!!!

I wondered if there are people out there who have the same problem I do.

I say stay with Hockey. Hockey is an awesome sport, so many inserts and memorabilia cards.

It all depends on what you collect for your own personal collection. Take it from someone that used to try and collect everything.

I try to collect everything. Since I follow all sports, I only pick up what I like (I don't bust boxes, only buy singles) or what I can get at a good price. Even though it may mean only a few nice cards per sport, I like the balance better. I generally collect one sport more than others during certain times, but it seems pretty level for the most part.

I think you are going about this all wrong. You should probably consider adding Racing and Tennis to the portfolio. Yeah, that makes way more sense.

;)

MAN! I just added Racing to my collection a few boxes ago... and I am being serious..i busted quite a bit of the Nascar Press Pass Wheels stuff i love it..

As long as you're having fun I don't think it matters how much you collect. That and it doesn't burn your wallet all that much..

So, you added one instead, LOL.

I was gonna say non-sport stuff, not because I don't dig some of it, but because I find it generally overvalued.

i decided to only buy by case now... that way I am going to get most bang for my buck. If I cannot afford a case of product, i skip it until the new one comes along..

I used to collect New York cards in ALL sports, then my collection got too big, and it was too expensive, and i realized i didnt care that much about some sports, so i picked my favorite sport - Baseball, and now thats all i collect.

What i did was keep a small collection of vintage New York cards in the other sports, because the old cards are so neat (1949 thru early 1970's), and then sold or traded off the rest of them.

I am much happier now focusing on baseball only, and i find i am more interested in cards of players who dont play in New York than i used to be. Its nice to focus in on your favorite sport only.

baseball is the one to drop.
-in baseball you dont know if a rc going to be any good until 5 or 6 years later.
-prospects often flop
-there is sooo much baseball produced the secondary market is watered down
-therfor little return on investment (if that happens to concern you)
-very fickle - players hot today not tomorrow (fb a close second) bkb and hockey dont seem to suffer the one season wonders quite as bad

So 99goals did you ever make a decision? up date us.....I only collect hockey so Other than hockey I could not give you an informed decision...I might suggest choosing the sport you are most passionate about...Or non sport if that is your favorite.

Right now the hype is around baseball and Strasburg... we're one of the few places in Canada to offer a full selection of 2010 Topps products online. Of course, we're in Canada, and in Canada hockey rules, so you can't go wrong with hockey!

Well, in my opinion, all of the mentioned sports are quite famous. You’ve really made me to think tough this time. Hmmmm, I think dropping hockey would work well from the sporting news and sporting magazine point of view. What do you think?

One of the ways I solved my dilemma was to wait for someone to open up a product or watch box/case breaks first. Then I determined if I felt like busting any boxes regardless of sport.

I know I'm biased living in Canada, but I would advise you to collect hockey. Why? Most rookies are actually worth collecting. In baseball, for example, you'll crack a wax box and get 20 rookies, and you've probably only heard of 1. For hockey, each team has a roster of, what is it, 25 players??? Upper Deck or Panini will produce maybe 3 rookies for each team (at most). So, you would have about 90-100 rookies in hockey to collect rather than, I don't even have a guess for baseball, maybe 200-300??? On the other hand, you can pick up a bunch of baseball rookies really cheap. Think of the greats in the 80's: Boggs, Sandberg, Maddux, Clemens. Their rookies are dirt cheap when you compare to the career they had. In the same decade in hockey, you pay $150 for Patrick Roy, $200 for Mario Lemieux, $100 for Stevie Yzerman. I played baseball for 20 years and I love the sport, but hockey cards to me is the way to go!!!
