Open Ice was amazing.

With EA making it, I imagine it should be a fairly competent arcade style game.

Agreed. I still bust out the PS1 version almost every time the HI guys come over and we have a few games.

Unfortunately, the only secret character they stuck in that game was Gordie Howe, which is unfortunate. Nothing feels worse in the arcade version than getting beaten 12-6 with 10 goals coming from Heather the cheerleader

Looks a lot like Hitz, but the people at EA say it is nothing like 09, more pick up and play, and it is downloadable for 10 bucks. Also only 40-50 players in the game

I downloaded it yesterday and had fun playing it for a few hours.

It gets a little redundant, but definitely worth the $10 download as its a fun game to play.

My favorite mini team combo that seemed to be unstoppable was:
Kovulchuk, Cogliano, Weber, Luongo

and I would have a secondary team of Iginla, Boyes, Phaneuf, Luongo

If you ever play against Crosby though, its very difficult I found for your goalie to save his dekes. so I just check, check, and check

so does the game have like season/tournament mode or anything?

No season/tourney mode....basically the premise of the game is to set the scoring title anywhere between 5-15 goals, and whichever 4 player team does..wins!
Also, there is online mode but I haven't tried it yet.
There are ways to throw off your opponent such as:

Turning into a big goalie or turning your opponents goalie into a tiny one!
Rocket Skates
Big Bully
Dropping a banana peel

stuff like that...

Pretty cool hockey game for beer nights...I mean Root-beer!
