i dont know if its just me but carey price is not playing good at all , he had such a great rookie season , i think montreal has to stick with halak for now if they want a playoff spot , i no hes still young so we cannot doubt him at all hes a great goalie

They made him lose too much weight. That is my opinion. Very simple. I just don't think you can ask a young guy to make such a drastic change to his body and not have it affect him.

Before the all star game: 920SV%
Since his injury before the all star game: 870-880 SV%

He just hasn't been the same. Gainey's rushing him when he should be splitting time with another goalie and gradually making him the #1 instead of throwing the burden on his shoulders.

Gainey should have known Price would be burnt out. There are also issues of mental toughness which Price seems to go up and down on. His confidence is absolutely shot and it's evident in his play. He doesn't fight to see pucks, he doesn't fight to make saves.

Some are saying his injury is more than what's being reported. There is no doubt that Price rushed his return from injury to play in the ASG.

He seems to really get bummed out when things don't go well. when he was first demoted to Hamilton last season he let in like 12 goals his first 2 games back in the AHL. Then he came back down the stretch but fell apart against Philly. Seems to be worse this time around though.

Ooops...misleading title...

I thought this was about the remake of the 70's television classic "What's Happening" starring Carey Price. My mistake...

IMO most people who were hyping Price were Habs fans....They were obviously biased in the decision because he's a home town boy....I watched him throughout his RC season and parts of this season I never really thought he was that good at all...I don't think anything is "happening" to Price....I just think your seeing Price for what he really is....A mediocre NHL goalie....

Price is from Quebec?

he's just going through a slump. he's had flashes of brilliance but he's still young. doesn't everyone say goalies take much longer to mature? if he wasn't so overhyped, people would see he's doing fine and progressing well. he's nhl ready at such a young age yet it's ridiculous who people are already comparing him to.

I've liked Halak more since day one. I never got on the Price wagon but I feel bad for the guy. He had the potential to score goals! I'm serious. I could picture him scoring into empty nets Theodore style. Oh well, he can still do it as backup...

My guess is that it's just the dreaded sophmore slump.
If I remember correctly Lundqvist didn't do nearly as well as he did his rookie season.

Im a baseball guy at heart so I tend to look at new goalies as new pitchers coming into the majors.

When young pitchers (who are suppose to be the next thing) come into the majors they are normally on fire. Then after about a year the batters they are facing get use to the pitchers tendencies and they normally get rocked. But then they normally bounce back after about a year, because now they know the batter and their tendencies.

Also figure it like this. There are currently 947 players in the NHL with 30 teams. Each team carries 2 goalies so that makes up 60 players in the NHL.

So that now means that a goalie has to now learn the tendencies of a possible 887 players that they will face, as to where other players only have to learn at the max 60!! This is not even including call ups. There is a big reason why it take goalies a while to learn this league.

Back to Price, is he NHL material Yes. NHL ready....sometimes. I believe the biggest problem with Carey Price is that he plays in the worst NHL city, meaning HABS fans LOVE their hockey and will absolutely be expecting the absolute best out of their players. Its a lot of pressure to hold a franchise with a great history, on your shoulders. Especially when you are only 21 years old and all eyes are on you to be the next great goalie!

What a bizarre statement. Having a passion for the game and expecting your team to play to their potential makes Montreal "the worst NHL city"? I'm sorry, I don't see that logic. By that line of reasoning, Phoenix, Nashville, and Atlanta are the best NHL cities.

Price has been a bit overrated from day 1. He's a good goalie, but not a great one (not yet, anyway). This is him settling into his place in the NHL.

Too much, too soon. I think he will develop into a good goalie, but they are going to have a hell of a job getting him some confidence back.

Overrated, that can be debatable. He definitely has the tools to become a great goalie, but how many young players can find their place immediately and then maintain that level and consistency? It's a definite learning process and when you have the expectations that most Canadian cities have for their team, it's not going to be easy. Tell me how many 18-21 year olds are able to be amongst the elite of their profession right off the bat and then be able to maintain that high level of performance for 5-10-15 years? There definitely aren't that many.

Unfortunately, perspective gets thrown out the window when expectations can become completely unrealistic. Just look at Toronto ;)

You mean Pogge hasn't won the Vezina, Hart, and Conn Smythe to lead a parade down Yonge St. yet? Because that's how this season is going down when I watch the games in my head.

i would say most of you guys are right
and look at fleury he was in the slump for a couple seasons
now hes a GREAT goalie i think Price will get back to his game
Next year .
