Whats Kraken?

I think the ownership accomplished what they set out to do.....to get their brand noticed. People are talking and the logo and jerseys look great.

I agree, they did a great job that was truly an act of the fans, which is a good thing. They took a fan(s) idea and ran with it from start to finish when it came to the Kraken name. Their jerseys, hats, etc will sell very well among hockey fans.

Love the team name but I have seen numerous fan made versions of the Kraken logo on /r/hockey and hfboards that look better than the official logo.

I agree there, but think (hope) they do something striking with the alternate jersey and have some massive Kraken on there. Just another opportunity to build anticipation and sell merch.

That said, I assume the "S" is a nod to the old Seattle Metropolitans jersey and the hockey history in the city?

Will Detroit fans be up in arms (get it) when someone releases the Kracken onto the ice , a-la Joe louis arena.and will the first time be numerous Kracken or just one ?

I think it's the stupidest name ever and the logo I saw looks silly, a letter "S: that looks like a serpent. The creature is a gigantic sea creature of scandanavian folklore. What relationship does that have to that area??

Immigrants from Nordic countries – Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Iceland and Finland – settled in large numbers in the Pacific Northwest in the late 19th century, drawn to a landscape of saltwater fjords, farmland, forests and mountains that reminded them of home. By 1910, Scandinavians were the largest ethnic group in Washington State, comprising over 30 percent of the foreign-born population.

The name they chose is a perfect fit for the sh** hole the city has become. The S logo is a blatant theft of the Seagrams Gin logo too.

Like I said stupid name.

I'm really liking the logos, they'll make some pretty nice patch cards! Although my first thought when I heard the name was of my young lad. He's pretty skinny and his pants don't stay up fully when he bends over. I always tease him about releasing his Kraken.
