Where did this swatch come from?

I have a question about a Dion Phaneuf 10-11 Pinnacle Game Night card. It looks as though it is a jersey piece, bu that square part you see in the pic is brown. The material doesn't quite seem like a jersey swatch to me. The back of the card does just say player worn material.
I see this one on ebay(there are a few others too) which have even more spots of this type. Almost looks like digital camo.

Panini used those jerseys above. Almost ever James Reimer piece is from that jersey too. I think they were some kind of practice/warm up jerseys
