The annual meeting of the Selection Committee will be held in Toronto on June 26 to select and announce the 2012 inductees.
The 2012 Induction Weekend festivities will run from Friday, November 9th through Sunday, November 11th, 2012
culminating with the Induction Celebration on Monday, November 12th, 2012.

Here's the list of first-year eligible players:

Curtis Joseph
Olaf Kolzig
Philippe Boucher
Patrice Brisebois
Keith Carney
Greg de Vries
Martin Gelinas
Chris Gratton
Bret Hedican
Sean Hill
Bobby Holik
Darius Kasparaitis
Ken Klee
Claude Lemieux
Teppo Numminen
Michael Peca
Luke Richardson
Gary Roberts
Jeremy Roenick
Joe Sakic
Brendan Shanahan
Mike Sillinger
Jason Smith
Mats Sundin

So, who do you think gets voted in?

I think Sakic is a certainty.

My first thought when I saw the list was:

Sakic
Roenick
Sundin

Sakic is a certainty as you said, then Sundin and finally Roenick, in order of certainty in my opinion.

Paul

Sakic is first ballot for sure
Sundin should be as well.

Third in Ill go with CuJo though. 450+ wins good for 4th all time. Then again, his 352 losses ties him for the most losses in in history.....

Sakic and Shanahan are first ballot guys as both won multiple cups, olympic gold medal and put up huge point and goal totals. I think Sundin and Roenick will also get in, not sure if they will on the first try as there are still a few solid guys who still are not in yet. I wouldn't be surprised to see Bure get in this year.

Sakic is definately first ballot
Shanahan
Sundin (didn´t really win anything in NHL, but his international success is too good to pass)
Oates

I think Roenick and Joseph will be included in some point.

Curtis Joseph
Claude Lemieux
Gary Roberts
Jeremy Roenick
Joe Sakic
Brendan Shanahan
Mats Sundin

I think the above guys will get in at some point.

Sakic and Roenick this year... Maybe Joseph as well. Lemieux might be a stretch but he was Mr. Playoffs.

Sakic - no brainer.
Shanahan - can't understand the not deserving thought process, no brainer.

Joseph, Roenick, Sundin - deserving of the Hall but not 1st timers.
Joseph for number of wins - but the number of losses may hurt.
Roenick - 500 goals and one of the 10 best American born players. No Cup can hurt.
Sundin - 500 goals and one of the 5 best Swedish players. No Cup can hurt.

I can't really see any of the other first timers getting in.
Claude Lemieux - I understand the Cups, but nothing else about his career says HOF.
Gary Roberts - Nice career, 1 Cup still not HOF worthy.

No need to comment on anyone else on the list.

Sakic and Shanahan are slam dunks, like Bruce I have no idea what people are talking about with Shanahan?!?!

Roenick and Sundin will be the other 2 this year. Everyone else will wait.

I don't think CuJo gets in on first ballot, he's in too tough against the other first ballot guys. He is 4th all time wins, I don't think his losses are a strike against, he is tied for most loses but he is tied with Gumper so he is in good company there. I think what hurts Joseph the most is lack of hardwear. No Stanley Cup, no Vezina (runner up once). He did win a King Clancy but that is for community service. The other things is it is just difficult for goalies to get into the Hall, there are only 36 goalies in the HHOF. In the past 25 years only 7 goalies have been inducted:

Belfour (2011)
Roy (2006)
Fuhr (2003)
Billy Smith (1993)
Tretiak (1989)
Esposito (1988)
Giacomin (1987)

There are a number of goalies not in the hall of fame who I think deserve consideration before Joseph. The following goalies who are eligible are still not in the Hall:

Vernon, Barrasso, Vachon, Moog, Hextall

In my opinion ^ those goalies should get consideration well before Joseph. They all have Cups except for Hextall (guess he has one now with the Kings lol), all of these goalies have won other hardwear too, everything from Calder winners, Vezina winners, Jennings, Smythe winners. They aren't in yet so I don't think Joseph should be. Joseph had good numbers, played a long career and was always a fan favorite but I don't think that alone is enough to make him first ballot eligible for the HHOF, especially with the competition he is in with. I think the following first year ballots will be inducted this year:

Joe Sakic (slam dunk)
Shanahan

Questionable: Claude Lemieux, Sundin, Roenick

You also have to remember there are a number of non-first years who should be considered:

Lindros, Bure, ADAM OATES, Dave Andreychuk, Phil Housley, Mogilny, Reggie Leach, any of the goalies I mentioned above, especially Vachon and for me someone I would love to see inducted is Theo Fleury. The guy has awesome numbers, just a lot of controvery around him but I hope the HHOF can see past that because I really think Theo is deserving of induction.

Cheers
Connie

Joe Sakic - without a doubt.
Mats Sundin - Highest scoring Swede ever.
Brendan Shanahan - LW position. Power forward. Pts and PIM.

Curtis Joseph - maybe.
Jeremy Roenick - maybe.

But I think these guys should get in before the last 2.

Lindros (865 pts in 760 games) ranked 19th career PPG, Bure (437 G in 702 games) ranked 25th career PPG, 5th in career GPG, 3rd in the modern era, behind Bossy and Lemieux, ADAM OATES (16th overall career points, 4th all time in assists with 1079 behind Gretz, Francis, and Messier-Francis and Messier played 400 game more than Oates), and Phil Housley (highest scoring US born d-man, more than Leetch).

Curtis Joseph = Maybe this year
Claude Lemieux = One day
Gary Roberts = Maybe one day
Jeremy Roenick = One of the best USA players, a good chance
Joe Sakic = Definatly this year
Brendan Shanahan = Definatly this year
Mats Sundin = Maybe this year

I am also shocked that hockey smart people don't think Shanny will get in on the first try. 3 cups, super high point totals, gold medal. His accomplishments destroys anyone on that list not named Sakic and his numbers and accomplishments even rivals his. Roenick, Sundin and everyone else don't come close to Shanny's stats and cups. I really hope Mats gets in and Roenick but neither should get in before Shanny. Mats got an olympic gold but shanny got that too. Roenick got decent stats but not better than Shanny and has no cup or olympic gold. Not sure why I am defending him but it just needs to be said....slam dunk HOF guy.

Another thing about Shanny that many do not realize:
Most PIM of any of the 500 Goal Scorers.
Most PIM of any of the top 50 goal scorers of all time (check this, I looked pretty fast!)
19 straight years of 20+ goals
90+ fighting majors career!!!

Sounds like a pretty prolific career both offensively and as a team protector!

Sakic and Shanahan for sure.

The others on that list will wait.

What about Mogilny? I feel that his defection opened the doors for other young Russians to enter the league (e.g. Fedorov); first Russian to 1000 points, a Cup with NJ, multiple 50 goal seasons?
