Whos the "best"????

Football is tough because it is tough to compare Quarterbacks to Running Backs and Wide Receivers. My baseball pick(s) would be Willie Mays and/or Babe Ruth. Babe was the greatest hitter and most important sports figure but the best all-around player IMO was Mays. His autos are slightly less $$$ too. In football my pick(s) would be Joe Montana and Jim Brown. Both set the bar at their respective positions and I haven't seen anyone better. My $.02.... Mike

Unless I've missed it, I haven't seen Ty Cobb or Lance Armstrong's name yet. Pele, Diego Maradona, even David Beckham could be on such a list. If you want to get a bit more fringe, you could include Doyle Brunson, Phil Hellmuth, or winners of various spelling bees.

The OP asked for the 4 main sports. How is poker a sport?

You're right about the 4 main (North American) sports. I missed that, and started to follow everyone when boxing and golf came up.

You ask about poker, but not the spelling bees or pro wrestling? ESPN and TSN air both and it had more to do with that, but we are talking about events that do require some physical conditioning in order to play in long tournament forms. As far as our hobby is concerned, Sportkings hits on it.

That's the most I'm feeding your offtopic troll, though. I'm not going to engage a lengthy debate because there's good arguments on either side.
