Why did this card sell for so much?

2 people bidding on it...maybe they needed to complete a set, he doesn't have a lot of cards of out there so when one comes up who knows. I remember when he played a few games for the Flyers.

Hello,

The only thing I can think of is either set collectors, or two fellow countrymen that wanted the card. Or could be a combination of both. It appears that the top two bidders really drove up the price. And that's all it takes. Two interested parties. To have a very happy seller.

Cheers,

Nothing like a couple set builders and a card that doesn't come up for auction that often to spike a price. Just be wary of running out and digging one out of somebody's $5 bin next one could just go for opening bid

If he is a Finn - That would be another good reason .
Personally I did not think that the price was waaay out of line.
Plenty of set builders in UD 1 & 2

He's Norwegian. I'd still agree where he's from likely plays a big role. For other reasons, I chased one of each of his RCs and they were surprisingly expensive for a someone having a 2 year career in the NHL.

Different people collect chase different things - sometimes, it goes for $31 - others $5 and others $50.

I'm with Bruce on this one. When I opened the link, I was expecting to see some random parallel #/100 selling for 89 bucks or something like that. Not a patch card/15 from a product that has LOTS of set builders.

Heck, if I was building that 2006/2007 set, and I'd needed that card, it would have sold for more than that because my max bid would have been wayyyyyyyyyy more.

It makes sense if you are a set builder and need a copy so someone else doesn't get it for their set. But I doubt there was a Thoresen collector out there competing for this card.

Honestly...$31 is not much for a multi-colored and very low-numbered patch card even with a "nobody" plus it's a card from UD also!
But he's a pretty big star in KHL...no actually a superstar! 215 points in 207 games in KHL is actually very good!

Players from scandinavian or baltic/russian countries tends to sells very high even with nobodys...

I was expecting a much higher price as well. While I agree that the card should not have sold for that much it was not a stupid price or anything like that.

I had a bid no 30 on that card, i collect cards of Norwegian hockey players...
These low numberd cards on Norwegians do not appear wery often.. :/
This is the third i have seen since 2008 (i have 2 copies)
