Hi.
Why is it that when someone posts they have cards for trade. You go look in their bucket and see something you need, Usually low value. Then they PM you with their want list, telling you they want Crosby, Malkin, Stamkos, Toews, Price, Ovechkin and whatever other big names I haven't listed.

Is this happning to everyone or just me?

What do you tell these people?

Have a great day.
John

While it does happen a bit, I find it to be the reverse--it's always guys I NEVER have. Its all kool and the gang either way.

i agree with you as well.....there are a few people who only want the big names...but i find that less people are willing to trade for trade bait and are only looking for their wants...i guess its a way for people to cut costs and limit their collections

Welcome to trading.Sometimes you can get things you want but it's not without alot of work weeding through some peoples high wishlist. All part of the process

it is been very hard...when i had several higher BV cards(70+ BV) i was willing to trade down for my needs but couldnt get any takers and those cards were Price, Kane,Ovey Ect...no worries though...it will all work out in the end...good luck..Fred

Yes it is a common thing that has been happening lately.

What's worse is when you contact someone to say that you really need a certain card of their's that they were making available, and then mention you would be even willing to trade slightly in their favor to make the deal fair for all.
If someone told me that, I would think they must really need the card more than I do and hopefully we can make a deal that we both felt was fair. Sounds logical!

So you send them your bucket and offers, and then they respond saying they like your offer but want you to add another $200 bv in their favor, as they feel their card is in more demand or some related comment....say what?
Forget your trading reputation for always being fair, because it doesn't matter to these particular people.
I would rather wait until another copy pops up a year from now, then give someone the benefit of their greed.

This actually happened to me a couple times recently, but all one can do is shake their head in disbelief and move on!
A movie quote from DeNiro pretty much sums it up..."When did you start thinking you were better than me?" :)

i have been trying to get out of the hobby so I have been willing to give up to double and triple bv to get a name player, something that would be easy to sell.
All i get are people wanting to do 1 for 1 trades and give me a lower bv to boot!!!!

it's like people don't read the post.

HAHAHA hey Bruce...Chinner...Gordon...Jon...does this sound familiar?

Not picking on you there Oilersrule...just deja vu for me. I offered a dealer what we all thought was an extremely lopsided cash value trade (in his favor) at the last Vancouver show a couple weeks ago, and he said not only could he not take my deal, but to "make it worth his while," he needed another $50 to bring the trade even.

Meanwhile, the person I was trying to pick the card up for picked one up for a BIN of $50 earlier in the week with a similar swatch type (which is fair because that's about what it would have sold for on eBay.)

one other thing i wonder about is

when u have a sale/trade list and you state that "Only These cards are avail for sale/trade" ppl always want another card in ur bucket or sumthing that isnt listed. that bugs the hell outta me

Hi.
Thanks for the comments. At least I know I'm not alone on this.
lol Just got a PM from a member asking if he is the reason of this post..... I said yes.

It's ok..... one day I will get the 07/08 Artifacts I need. And hopefully when they drop in value ;) lol

Have a great day.

Jonno, I figured that wouldn't bug you half as much as you starting sale threads and getting "CMB" as a sale offer ;)

It has always been a dream of mine to acquire a Gretzky Limited Logos card in exchange for a pile of base cards and low-end jersey cards that someone needs to fill a set, even better if the set is 10 years old and I've had the cards sitting in a box for a decade.

I know I'm not alone.

;)

Personally I could care less, people collect all different things.I can't understand why some people collect these no name guys I never heard of buttttt....it's"their thing"!!Everyone is different lol,I may not collect those guys but i respect it as it's all part of the hobby.
I collect for what I want only and not really for any trade bait. But that's my thing and I don't go for anything else.If I'm collecting for a set that's what I want not some other set lol.Do I expect to acquire a gretzky auto for 10 bazillion low cards? No of course not lol.
But I also overbv on some deals to get certain cards I need for sets and it's kool to me as I need the card.So obviously I'll "pay"more for certain things.Only problem I see with that is I rarely see many people offering to overbv in your favor too.So it depends on what you are willing to "pay" to get certain things.
As for the selling thing..yeah that does bother me a bit when ya post in the "Selling" section and they want you to check their bucket???Or when they're selling cards and yet want a pm with an offer? If I wanted an auction I'd go to the other site lol.Lol seems kinda odd to me but hey whatever lol.I tend to ignore those ones.

Personally, the strange thing for me is that I don't mind someone saying "PM me with an offer" because some people quite honestly just don't know what to ask for a card, and don't wish to lowball or be lowballed themselves. I came across this in a sale thread last night that particularly irked me, however:

I definitely have a price in mind, FIRST PERSON TO PM ME AN OFFER NEAREST TO WHAT I WANT WILL GET THE CARD!!!

If you have a price in mind, then why don't you post it? The seller of this particular card urged people to check his eBay listing for a full picture of the card as well. Quite honestly, reading that and experiencing that basically summed up that I wouldn't be buying from this person ever.
