It's because Jodey Shelley is a FAN favourite and has few to none nice cards to chase.

You can read my thread about Emeralds (in this area). It mentions why cards like this go for high.

Shelley has a decent collector base in Columbus. I can't really say what makes him popular though. He had a couple RC's that I needed for some sets I was working on and it took me quite a while to get them.

I've seen some 'highish' prices on shelley cards around here, but he played jr in halifax. Most local players or guys that come through the mooseheads or other nearby teams seem to do ok as far as selling price goes... shelley, giguere, murray, macinnis, m.a. fleury etc

Just like it says in beckett, it could be a regional premium, or as said above, player collectors could be fighting over them
