This is why I love HI and why I am proud to be a member.

You probably all know about my small Valabik collection - the reasons behind why I started it - the difficulty I have in adding to it ( lack of releases, lack of funds etc etc ) ........ well this post is dedicted to Cole Rickers and a big thank you to him.

Cole responded to my last show & tell ( 08/09 UD SPX Patch ) and sent me a couple of PM's, one of which asking for my address .... he had something for me. When I heard that I was extremely happy and thought it might be a couple of base cards for one of my many PC's ........ what I didn't expect was this ;

OMG

I have never even seen one of these and was seriously doubting it's existence.

I have no clue where he got it from - or how I can ever repay him - but Cole, thank you for me and my daughter for this awesome card

I'm currently at 55.78% for this PC - if I take out 1/1's it's 84.54% and if I take out those that I don't believe exist 92.13% ......... which is why it's more difficult to find cards to add

This post celebrates Cole, celebrates HI and celebrates the fact that Valabik has started his WBS Penguins career finally :-)

Cool. i never get tired of hearing stories like this! Great stuff! Post up a scan of your set progression if you got it.

Glad the card made it safely! I was worried about it since I've never seen one of these. I didn't have any players in the set, so I didn't know much about them. But the fact that I couldn't find another from the 50 card set anywhere hinted that they were pretty tough to find. From the quick research I did, you didn't even get an auto out of every 20 set case. If anybody knows any more about them or has one, I'm curious now.

I knew I had to land it for Mal though, and I was hoping before Xmas. Took a little longer, but I'm still stoked he has it. Rare unnumbered stuff is more my style anyway. I'd rather pick up cards like this than a Duchene Cup RC (which I still need), just because I wanna blow a grand on a card.

The smile on my face today reading this was more than worth it...

Great story! I love it cause it's a card that will sit in a lot of traders $1 bins forever but will mean the world to another person's PC.
 
Those are definitely very, very tough cards to find. It's great to hear it's in a real player collectors collection.
 
That's awesome. I wish I could find the Filatov version to finish his rookie year cards. I haven't even seen one yet.
 
Those cards are super tough to find of any of the players. Luckily I was finally able to find a T.J. Oshie one not too long ago and just recently I saw an Alex Pietrangelo in a PC
 
Just wanted to say thank you for all the views and comments - and wanted to say thank you also for helping me make Cole realise how much his help was appreciated with this card.

At the end of the day it's just a photo with a squiggle of ink on it - but to me it is a whole lot more and Cole can rest assured this card does not leave our collection for as long as I live ( although knowing my daughter she will probably sell the collection off when I'm gone to buy shoes !! )
