why??

Because I only have so much money to spend on cards for my player collection, and I'd rather use those funds (whether they be $ or trade bait) to get cards I don't already have. The only exception to this rule is patch cards, I'm interested in multiples of most patch cards.

I personally am usually only looking for one of each card when it comes to my Pyatt collection, but in a lot of cases I'd welcome more in the case of serial numbered stuff, or memorabilia in which I have a different color than what is being offered. Some cards though I already have 5-10 copies, so when I get offered say a 98/99 UD POE RC of Pyatt I will decline because I don't really need to start a third binder page of those things :D

Each person that uses these boards has a different out look on how to collect, to each their own. Post a want list and a trade list and try and make it work for you...if deals pan out then good if not then just look forward to the next deal.

I collect as many as I can of Lecavalier, meaning patches, jerseys, autos, rookies and numbered. I have 3 BAP 07/08 autos of Lecavalier, which I dont mind.

Personally for me, if I'm trading a $5 card for a $5 card that I already have, it's not worth it. It costs $10 to send it out + I get another member to send it out for me so I usually like to give him a profit. So on top of $10 shipping, I would add anther $5 to $10. Also it's a pain for me to go up to his house to drop off the card. It's not worth the hassle for me. Now, if we're doing a bigger trade and I'm trying to fill out some stuff to balance out the bv, I'll gladly take some cards I already have to work things out.

*cards take of space. Space is limited. If I'm taking up space in my room for cards, it better be something that I don't have.

here is my point. I only collect Patrick Kane and you have a Kane yg to trade to but I already have one so we cant trade because I already have one. if you bring a trade to me and only want to trade for for Kane but you already have it. thats my point and thats why its frustrating

I guess I'm a dimwit too because this only made it worse for me.

Why would someone having a card you are offering in trade be frustrating? Those $20 and under cards aren't hard to get, that's why they're worth so little (Kane YGs aren't $20, BTW). If you're trading something that someone already has and you want something they have, unfortunately you're going to have to make the deal a little more enticing to them, even if that means taking a loss on your $20 card.

You can't expect people to trade with you for stuff they already have UNLESS they are going to be able to move your card shortly thereafter. That might mean you offering them TWO $20 cards to get the one from them you want. Doesn't sound fair? That's the fun in putting together a deal. Both have to walk away happy. You're happy you got your card and the other guy is happy he got more out of the deal. Sometimes you have to lose to win.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but this seems to be your trading mentality:

I collect Patrick Kane.

I have a card you want.

You have a Patrick Kane.

I must accept your Patrick Kane in trade for my card, regardless of whether I already own 1 or 1000 copies of the card.

Because I collect Kane, I MUST accept yours in trade or there is something wrong with me.

Um...that's really not the way trading is supposed to work. Player collectors can be hoarders or completists or ultra-selective. Just because someone collects a player doesn't mean they want every copy of every card with his picture on it. They might want most cards with that player's picture on it...but not your card. For whatever reason, it's the collector's prerogative to either accept or decline a trade offer.

I can understand your frustration, it's like fishing with the wrong bait. Sometimes you need to change up the bait to catch what you want. And ultimately, you may need to find another fishing hole...

I don't like doubles of Clarkson because I don't have trade bait to be picking up doubles. I have trouble enough finding things to trade for the cards I don't have. I can't be wasting my good bait on doubles.

I too am baffled by this thread. If you offer me something I already have for something you NEED, you are the only one who wins in the deal. No offense, but I'd say trading with someone of that mentality would be frustrating to me...

Parsing your point:

I only collect Patrick Kane and you have a Kane yg to trade to but I already have one so we cant trade because I already have one.

That's fine if that's how you want to be. I can't agree myself; I load up on the Young Guns of the guys I like.

if you bring a trade to me and only want to trade for for Kane but you already have it.

Again, nothing wrong with this - especially if it gets you what you want.

Is there something we're missing?

Maybe if you ditched your run-on sentences and cited real-life examples, we could follow your horrible brand of English.

Can someone please explain this statment to me?????

If I collect kane and have his card, I can't trade?
If you want my kane, we can't trade?

??????

Trading is what you make of it.

My computer must really be messed up. I clicked on my Hobbyinsider link and got Beckett.com..........

Ha ha, I thought this type of thread seemed familiar. I'm not entirely sure what the original poster is trying to get across, but the simple answer is that people can collect what they want. I don't usually collect multiple copies of a card, but others do, so good for them. If you want 50 copies of Kane's YG, then go for it. If you're good with one, then you don't have to accept one when offered in a trade. Very simple. Again, I apologize if I'm missing the OP's point.
