3 reasons from what I heard hear on Chicago radio and read in the papers here:
1) The McCaskey Family and Soldier Field. When they redid Soldier Field very little was put into fixing the actual field. When it gets wet the field is a pit. They re-sod it like 3 times during the season. Imagine what would happen after they froze all that ice on top of it. And the McCaskey family are a bunch of pricks. Unless they would get most of the profits they weren't going to go for it.
2) John McDonough. The new Hawks exec used to work for the Cubs. He still has a great repour with the orginization as well as the Illinois Sports Facilities Commision (they supposed buyers of Wrigley Field by next year). He didn't have to do much convincing to get them to okay it.
3) Its Wrigley "friggin" Field. As much as I'm a White Sox fan, Wrigley is still such a huge part of history here in Chicago. The only way to compete with Yankee Stadium was to put it in a National Landmark stadium.
I still think Soldier Field would be a better venue, but that is the reasons I heard here.
Side Note: Definitely plan to go to this thing. I don't think the wife will, but sure some of my buddies will go with me. And anyone else that might plan to go. Wrigley has a lot of obstructed view so go with the better seats. Nothing like watch a game around a giant pole, LOL.
