Already over $2M Canadian.

Authentication of the Stick:

After investigation by Phil Pritchard, Director of Information and Acquisitions at the Hockey Hall of Fame, and the leader of authority on hockey sticks in the world, it was determined that this item represents and important piece of Canadiana and hockey history. It is estimated that the first forms of what became hockey were played in Canada in the 1850's. After a full investigation, it has been determined that this hockey stick was carved between 1852 and 1856.

News media, world antique appraisers, and sports memorabilia authorities have appraised the value of this item at $4.25 million USD. This item has the utmost historical significance in hockey history.

You know... Brian Price of ITG got major sh*t from collectors and historians all over the world for taking Georges Vezina's only known pads and cutting them up into cards, instead of donating the pads to the Hockey Hall of Fame... well this, in my humble opinion, is worse... this is the OLDEST hockey stick in the world, authenticated by an expert... exactly the sort of piece that needs to be in the Hall of Fame. I guess we can only hope that the end purchaser is a philanthropic purchaser, and will donate it to the Hall... at least the $$ will got to charity.

That is a cool post to read....Wow the worlds oldest hockey stick you just don't see that everyday...great write up about the stick by the seller. That would be a awesome conversation piece to own in ones collection.

a zero feedback buyer jumped the price from 11000 Can to 2.2 million, so hopefully it is someone who is purchasing for an exhibit piece and not being shilled where the buyer doesnt come through

I'm guessing the reserve was $2.2 - the bidding jumping like that is the only way that could happen, isn't it? And this was attempted to be sold a few times in the past two or three years with nothing but failures. We'll see what happens...

I'm with Bruce on this one 100%. Get this thing to the HOF as fast as possible. Also, considering the jump in price, it wouldn't surprise me if it was being shilled...

Guys - it wasn't shilled - it had the Reserve price met. The bids went from $11,000 to $2.2 Million. Sure, the guy currently winning may be a fraud, but it doesn't look shilled to me. It says right on the bid history - reserve met.

I don't know how you would get the thing to the HOF - they don't pay that kind of money for anything, so unless someone donates it so they can get a tax receipt, I doubt it will ever go there.

I know...I just wanted to play along for a little bit ;)

And yes it would be tough for it to go thto the HOF, considering what it's apparently worth, but it really does belong there.

I grew up on Lake Erie and that is a legit piece of beach wood. A Brett Hull curve on that oldy and a trip to the rink would equal 2 million down the tubes.

Cool piece of history for a one piece :)
