I am not a big Cup collector, but I can appreciate the photo Upper Deck posted to Twitter today showcasing 99 ARP cards of Connor McDavid.

I think something as simple as this can be a huge deterrent for patch faking and should be a standard for all card companies moving forward.

Excited to see this happening.

There will always be scum bags like Kenny going around faking memorabilia cards, but this certainly is a step in the right direction on Upper Decks part.

yea pretty happy about that as well. one thing i am disappointed about though is it looks like they are event-used and most of them made out of the lettering that they stitch on i.e. "first over all draft pick" or whatever... just not stoked about patches that are not typically on gamers. i feel these two facts should and will drastically reduce the value and sales of McDavid's RC.

well,if someone were to fake a swatch.it would probably be a single color swatch as there isn't one in the entire print run.making it a true ebay 1/1:rolleyes:

I don't understand why people sees the level of patches as the important thing. It is all about preventing fakes.

I agree. There are a few with pieces of the Oilers logo and a good amount come from jersey numbers so if I was a buyer (no chance in hell LOL) I would be holding out for one of those patches. Those extra "ROOKIE 2015" or whatever patches don't do it for me at all.

Most of the Panarin patches look pretty sweet though.

They did this for Mackinnon as well in the 13/14 year right?

They should at least start doing this for all of the /99 Cup rookies. Ideally they could do it for all of the patches in the Cup.

They could leverage their ePack website to store and let people access the picture database to verify patches.

I know for the high rollers, it's a pissing contest. The guy with the most breaks or colours is the king of the castle. UD should have gone with the mock up and made #97 the tip of the Oil Drop. All of the cards would sell in the same area and #97 would have seen a much more significant premium than it's going to get already.

Good though, this way anyone pulling one will be happy regardless/anyways.

Somebody was telling that it costs a lot. I still don't understand how. If an average card of The Cup costs $100 (including base!), then is photoshooting those cards really that big investment?

Well, they do have the ePack website to leverage off of. If they scan the cards as they're produced and upload the pictures to ePack, the costs shouldn't be restrictive.

Even if it's just the 6 - /99 Cup rookies, that's a start at least. Just 594 scans to make and upload. Just bring in the COMC guys to do the scans.

Technically they wouldn't have to scan each of the #\99 run. Just do like they did with the McDavid and Panarin. Save a boatload of time and money. I'm disappointed no Domi, Bennett, Larkin and Ehlers have been posted to date.

Would be great if they did individuals ones, then people can look up the serial number for the card. Similar to looking up graded cards in a database.
