Wow, today it cost me 20.30 cents to ship a card in a bubble mailer to Quebec registered from Minnesota. Shipping is definitely no joke anymore.

the post office can suck it!

The cost to ship registered before was about $17 or so if I remember correctly, no?

On a side note, you are actually allowed to send a bubble mailer registered? My POs won't allow that. I have to put the bubble mailer in a small box, then use the paper tape all over the exposed seams.

I have no idea why yours is less. I think the post packs it up but never saw how she did it. But she said if it meets thickness with extra bubble wrap I am ok without a box. I dunno, but she has always been good to me. Anyhow if I can remember correctly it was 13.95 before to ship to Quebec.

This card I sold was a 100.00 card. The buyer paid me 1/5 book value of it just on shipping. Sad...

It certainly isn't a joke when it comes to shipping international these days. I am trying to not ship anything, unless the trades are over $100 in trade value.

You definitely can ship a bubble mailer registered. It used to cost about $11-something + shipping for registered (usually $3-4).

Wow, I'm gonna have to try it at another location and see what happens. Standard small customs form I assume will suffice?

Do you have to apply any of the paper tape to put over the back closing?

Try not to use the poly (plastic) mailers as the post office is supposed to seal registered packages with their own tape, and that tape doesn't stick to the plastic stuff.

Previous price for Registered Bubble Mailer about 2ounces to Canada was $15.50 - about a 35% increase!

As far as BillInDallas - they are totally in error. There is no guidelines on size to send a Registered item out of the country. And yes - it must be the paper tape over the flap - no cellophane sealing tape. And signatures are required from the recipient .

Thanks for the info! This will save me money and more importantly a ton of time getting registered mail ready.

After reading this and previous threads about the USPS, I have to shake my head. I never thought I'd say this, but I truly feel sorry for you guys.

Not only has the price increase affected all of us in the hobby, but the amount of rules there appears to be is complex/incredible. To top it off, it appears the USPS employees don't even know them from location to location.

This +1000! I can deal with the price increase, but the inconsistency between offices/clerks and lack of knowledge of the employees makes shipping more of a headache than it can be at times...not enough to cut off parts of the world though!

Just found out this morning there will be no more delivery's on Saturdays starting August 1st.

Post office claims they lost 16 billion last year.

Dollars or pieces of mail!

Ha Ha - but they lose far less than Canada Post any way you look at it!!

As far as the losses quoted - people have to realize that unlike any other business I know of - the USPS is required by US Congress to 100% PRE-PAY it future Health Care Requirements.

Quoted from the article on Sat closings:

"The agency's biggest problem - and the majority of the red ink in 2012 - was not due to reduced mail flow but rather to mounting mandatory costs for future retiree health benefits, which made up $11.1 billion of the losses. Without that and other related labor expenses, the mail agency sustained an operating loss of $2.4 billion, lower than the previous year."
