I am not all that surprised though to be honest. This stuff is drying up......faster than ever as more people bust it. And all the best cards are being locked up by player collectors and a new slew of heavy hitters on the bay (see frogprelude2k).

Looks like the winner here doesn't buy much but is definitely a Gaborik collector.

You also have to remember relative to the price of these tins (about $550-600 a pop) a card like that is a deal. Are you likely to hit your guy's card like that out of 2 tins? Probably not.

Also this is the first go round for The Cup. The inaugural edition of anything tends to retain it's value and popularity above and beyond any other subsequent release.

I bet Reed is stoked right now!

That's just nuts... To each their own. Amazing what a cardboard frame can do for a piece of stick. I know UD got that stick for a lot less than that card sold for.

Wonder if those Property Of cards retain value when they come out again this year...and next year...kinda like NHL shield cards.

We know UD got all the sticks for less than what they sold for excpet maybe Lionel's Bobby Hull.

As far as if they come out again this year, I think they'll be just as popular but I think the 05/06 version will always trump anything else.

Also, if a player makes a second appearance in a set like this I don't forsee his value being as much as his inaugural issue, just my thoughts.

Still, that is one hefty price. I would just salivate to see the Gretzky or Yzerman go to auction.

Who else is left of note that we have not seen?

It occasionally happens that we see an ebay buyer come out of nowhere and start spending insane amounts of cash.

...half the time, after a string of successful purchases, they end up NARU'd and Neg'd.

So... really, who knows how this guy will end up?

Honestly,

I think that is a very fair price for the Gaborik Card. I would contemplate buying it for that price. At $900, I'd buy it fur sure. I dont' know if it's UD's marketing or the Cup's allure, but with paying $3000+ for each of the cases I opened and will open, that's pretty cheap comparing to some of the tins I have broke along with many others,...

Since I have got back in the hobby just a couple of months ago, how do the 1/1's and Logo, Shield cards do years after their release??? If someone is willing to pay $3000+ (oe well above) USD for a Crosby 1/1 Artifacts Tag or a Crosby 1/1 Ultimate Debut Threads, what's the issue for a Propoerty of,... Gaborik for just over $1K?

Just my thought - I surely wouldn't be buying 1/1's of Crosby from sets that are common. No matter if it is a 1/1 or whatever else.
