UD Canada World Jr. Set - Cancelled

That's two sets where the timing has been terrible. The World Junior set and the Montreal set. If they had the foresight to release the CWJ set around the World Juniors and the Montreal set just before the 100th celebrations, both would be money with both collectors and non collectors (if marketed in Ottawa and Montreal during both events).

Too bad, could have been a good and fun set to go after.

Luckily for us Habs fans just about every day is a day to celebrate the team. It would have been nice if the product came out during All-Star weekend instead of during this little funk that they're in, but hey, it gives us all more time to recover from Christmas and the iron will still be hot when income tax refunds start coming back.

Speaking with our distributor Friday, I noticed the UD Canada World Junior set had been pulled from the up-coming products list.

I asked and was told it was cancelled. (Nelson @ Grosnor Feb 20/09)

30 cards plus 2 jerseys for $25(+/-).

They likely could not get the jerseys.

I was told today from my wholesaler that the set has NOT been cancelled.

does your distributor handle 'retail' products?

Perhaps someone with a link to UD can clear this all up?

Ohhhhh Well, Just one less overpriced, worthless product UD won't be wasting out time with. I'm sure they'll create another 20 worthless hockey products this year full of non gameused jerseys, emblems, numbers, patches etc.. to fill the boxes and peddle as authentic. They are licenced to produce garbage and as long as the orders keep coming in, they'll keep pumping out worthless cardboard.

I hope this monopolization ends next year for the hobbies sake.

Ugh, that really sucks. I can see them not getting the jerseys because they were auctioned off on eBay. I was planning on getting a couple sets, but I guess not now.

Seeing as the post started with this coming from the distributor. I think you can call it official. I don't think UD will put it in flashing lights. My distributor added it was due to poor pre-sales.

If they were going to release this they should have done it closer to the tournament, or maybe do one next year for this years tourney. Interest has died down I imagine.

Might be a tad difficult since the team is finalized a week before the tournament starts - and putting something together like that around Christmas doesn't make things easier. Logistics are wonderful when it can all be done in one's head - but real world execution is a different story.

Topps is doing something for the WBC - but I'm betting the first cards of the young guys that everyone wants in national uniforms like Darvish, Lowrie and such probably won't appear until June at the earliest - 3 months after the tournament will have concluded.

It hasn't been confirmed yet, but it's not looking good. I think at the very least it will be delayed.

Damn - love the WJ Tourney and certainly would have pumped some money into this thing - oh well...bring on the Superlative!
Should have known that UD wouldn't be able to pull this one of - Dr Price - this sounds like a perfect set for ITG!
