Another wrestling death...he was apparently found in his Tampa apartment. WWE.com is reporting it in their Industry News link. Very sad.

This seems to be an issue that may never end for pro wrestling.

I would tend to agree. Not sure if anybody has followed the perilous story of Perry Saturn, but he has been missing to his friends for the last nearly 4 years (since before Chris Candido's death) and is assumed dead as well, though nobody has been able to confirm.

Matt,
I've heard this as well. Some seem to think that he basically took himself out of the limelight after he got shot in the neck. Hope he is well.

I don't know what his situation is like lately, but I maintained for some time near the end of his WWE run & the beginning of his TNA run that Kurt Angle would be the next big wrestling tragedy.

Though it doesn't seem like it will happen, an off-season where wrestlers still get paid whilst being able to recoup would be ideal. None of them want an off-season because they fear the money will cease and their livelyhoods will be affected.

A union may help as well but I doubt someone like Vince McMahon would take that one laying down.

McMahon's already offered to pay for rehab to anybody that has ever been employed by WWF/WWE. I don't think it's up to him to start a union for the wrestlers though...that's their job. This is where Chris Nowinski or whatever his name is comes back into the picture I'm guessing ;)

Well, Nowinski is big on proving head injuries in wrestling and what behaviors they cause so I'm not sure if he'd be in on that.

Vince offered the payment for rehab after the Benoit thing; it's merely a "see, I care!" move to cover his rear. Besides, in the scope of things, so few guys use that. I think to date, like a dozen guys have used it.

Like I said, unless Vince decides to crack down to a degree where guys lose tv and paychecks, enforcing it to the point that top end stars feel the effects, this will continue.

However, I may be in the minority in thinking that it's not Vince's job to keep tabs on what his wrestlers do in their spare time. They're adults; if they can't regulate their own lives, Vince shouldn't have to play baby-sitter. So with all the media attention, he's been painted in an unfair corner.

Regardless, this is a trend that's going to keep going unless the community figures out what to do about it or a union comes along that mandates benefits and an off-season.
