Maybe you missed what they have coming off the books this summer:

- Toskala $4M
- Mike Van Ryn $2.9M
- Stempniak $2.5M
- Ponikarovsky $2.1M
- Stajan $1.75M
- Exelby $1.4M
- Primeau $1.4M
- Mayers $1.3M
- Raycroft buyout finished $0.7K

That's $18M coming off the books from largely replaceable players. They have some of the most cap space to play with next season in the league.

I was just talking about the numbers for this year. There was talk of Toronto making a trade for Sopel, which doesn't seem workable as Chicago is also in cap trouble. I also heard rumblings of a deal between Chi and TO for Brian Campbell, which makes no sense at all.

tlusty was the player involved for sopel and a pick.

He's no longer a Leaf and that's why I had my banner changed. My plan is to keep most of my Tlusty PC unless I get an offer that blows me away. Plus I don't love Tlusty, I just think he didn't get a fair shot here and looks like he'll have more of a chance in Carolina. I only started collecting him b/c at that time he was the best Leaf's prospect. Only Leaf's prospect? O_o

Leafs have pretty much free reign (and the $$$) to bury a bad contract in the AHL as well.
 
Still not quite sure what to think of the deal, but it will be interested to see how Tlusty plays this season and next. Rutherford usually has a pretty good feel for some guys who don't shine in the spotlight of the Original 6 but can play the game when the press is kinder and the fan base is more forgiving.
 
I wonder if this is the first of many Cane moves. They will probably try to dump some of the vets as we get past the mid-way point of the season. They will need some servicable people to fill in at that point. Tlusty could have a great oppurtunity to play on one of the top 2 lines after the deadline.

I'm not crazy about the deal, but on my Leafs young guns list, Tlusty was under, Stalberg, Bozak, Kulemin and Kadri, so it isn't a huge blow.
 
I thought Tlusty was brought up far too soon. That and he was drafted about 15 places before he should have been taken (and this is coming from a Greyhounds fan). I'm betting he'll do ok without the pressure that comes from playing for the Leafs.
