And I wanted them to knock off the Caps in the second round!! :|

The Philadelphia Flyers took a commanding 3-1 series lead over the New Jersey Devils following Tuesday's victory, but the win came at a cost.

Simon Gagne and Jeff Carter both suffered foot injuries in the contest, and both will have surgery on Friday.

According to the Flyers, Gagne could return to action in three weeks while Carter is out indefinitely.

Gagne blocked a Brian Rolston shot in the second period and was forced to leave the game with less than eight minutes remaining in the period. Carter was hit by a shot from the point by Chris Pronger, in which he immediately deposited the loose puck for his second goal of the game.

Carter, who led the team in goals with 33 in the regular season and has two goals and an assist in four playoff games, missed eight games towards the end of the regular season with a fractured left foot. Gagne has two assists in four playoff games.

Ville Leino will likely take at least one of the spots at forward. The Flyers have a number of call-ups from the Phantoms that could also play, including Andreas Nodl and David Laliberte.

The Flyers will try to clinch the series Thursday night in New Jersey (7:30pm et/4:30pm pt on TSN2).

I actually wrote NJ off, but with this news I could easily see them winning the next 3.

Flyers can match up with any team with either Carter or Gagne out. Gagne's been on the IR for more games than I can remember.

Both? that's a tall obstacle. Especially with Washington or Pittsburgh as potential round 2 opponents.

I'll take Leino over a Gagne everyday and twice on Sunday. He developed some chemistry with Briere towards the final few games in the regular season. Gagne has not been the same since getting his clocked cleaned by J Bo a while back.

Carter has this magic trick called a disappearing act in the playoffs. Since being on the Flyers, he only has 8 playoff goals. I have faith in Lavolette will make the necessary adjustments and we will sweek by with a W.

Never a good thing when players are injured, but I'm glad to see that Ville Leino will (most likely) make an appearance in this years Playoffs.
