Hi guys, this is mostly towards the Canadian members, but feel free to chim in. I was thinking about buying a case of 08-09 Black diamond (36) count blister packs. They are ridiculously low priced. More than half off.
Anyway my question is, the shipping calculator they give you, are the generally accurate? Meaning the price and # of days it takes to ship. it says 1-3 days for $27 bucks to my location.

Just curious.
thanks in advance.

I have ordered from them before, I am not sure if the calculator is accurate, but seeing as I haven't noticed, I would say it is.

Expect custom delays. You will also be charged duty, plus the government standard fee of $5 for looking at your package. Last time I ordered, my total was $108.90, I got hit with $19 worth of fees from Canada Post/Customs.

Do not chose their UPS option either, practically everything coming in from the USA UPS gets tagged with a $30 fee.

EDIT: Last time I ordered using their 1-3 days, it took 2 weeks, but that's just because of customs delays

Yeah always expect things to hang out in customs for weeks and you'll never be disappointed with your wait times.

so now i'm 2nd thinking lol. Waits sound long especially when u wanna rip some packs.

Is DHL no longer an option? I ordered one time and they shipped via DHL because with the amount of stuff I had, it was cheaper than USPS. I didn't have to pay brokerage / service fees, and I only had to wait about 10 days (which wasn't bad because they said 3 weeks)

The only thing is...I don't know about there, but DHL picks the least opportune places to have their offices around this area with the ****tiest hours, becoming a pain in the *** to pick up from there...and they're notorious for not knocking on your door and just leaving a delivery notice. One time when we had a DHL delivery, they drove up, left the notice on our GARAGE door and drove off...this despite the fact that my girlfriend was sitting in the living room watching TV and could have answered the front door, which they didn't even knock / ring on.

UPS (The Clown's in Brown) have brutal brokerage fees. BRUTAL

I buy all my wax from Canadian Distributors but buy my sporting equipment via USA sources and UPS adds BIG $$$ to your order. I had one $80 brokerage fee on a $200 bat.

Fed-Ex has an "after you think you have paid" fee show up in the mail a few weeks after you get your items just to remind you to BUY CANADIAN.

^got any promotions on right now lol.... jks jks.
I'd love to buy Canadian but all the hobby shops(none in my area) or flee markets charge half an arm and both your legs for a box(no offense or anything). I understand they've got to make money, but its hard to buy Canadian. Whats really had is you go to these sites and see a box for $65 and then you go to the shop and its $105.
I guess the guys like D&A and Blowout get you with hidden fee's newbies dont see coming like customs and stuff.

Well, just remember that that $65 is not really $65. USA -> Canadian (which right now is close but not even), add the border issues ($5 + GST) puts it closer to $87/90. Now, what is shipping? $10? = $97. Even at $95, you are talking about having something now for $105, or over time for $10 less...

Seriously, the numbers are closer than you think. I just priced out hobby boxes and with my outragious mark-up, I can sell them to you for $95 a box (Plus $10 shipping - next day). Buy 1, buy 30 - the shipping price is $10. (so can your local shop so buy from your local shop.....)

People tell us all the time how big the difference is - and then find out sometimes we are cheaper than the Blow-out or D&A after they discover the rest of the costs associated with the purchase.

We had a guy down this way buy a case of a product from Blow out because we were $16 a box more. It was his hope to buy it and flip the boxes. 2 weeks after the release, he finally got the product only to find he ended up paying $15 more a box than I would have charged him and the market he hoped to sell to was long gone as we and the other stores had the product 2 weeks sooner.

Boy I'm glad I live in a border town and also have a US shipping address. I just placed an order today, a 10 minute drive into the US to pick it up myself sounds better then waiting for it to go through customs.

65.00 plus 5.00 and hst = about 80.00 where did 87/90 come in,that would have to be a tax rate of over 20%:foottap:
dunno maybe my mathes is rong

i have been dealing with both d&a and blowout for years and found it cheaper to order from them then getting my stuff from Grosnor,of coarse its quantity then shipping really doesn't matter per box, averaged over a couple cases it brings the cost down per box, there shipping is about 2 days for blowout and 1 day from d and a,if you get enough from d and a there free boxes help pay the shipping cost, and with blowout just talk to them and if you order enough the ship for free.

Sorry, I thought you saw the part about converting the money over to Canadian... my bad.

Using their calculator - it actually came out to $87.86 (USA $$) for 08/09 Black Diamond before it hits the border (+$5 + HST).

As for it's cheaper than Grosnor....? LOL. It's virtually the exact same price only in USA funds (maybe 2-5% higher at D&A). Plus the shipping from Toronto to Brannford for a case of cards must be $6... it's $6-8 here and we're 2 more hours down the 401.

We used to deal with D&A and Blow-out. Trust me, the Canadian sources are far cheaper if you are a dealer.

If you're able to make the drive, you're better off. Spend a day shopping in Buffalo, order from DACW and tell them you want to pick it up at their store. I've been doing that for the better part of 15 years.

As for Grosnor, I love how they charge one price, somehow run out and then they act like they drilled in another area and found a pocket of cases and set up a well to extract it. I wish they'd just be honest and say "we're releasing a handful this week so we can dry ram you next week with price increases".

i would trust you but why am i able to SELL 08/09 black diamond at shows for 75.00 cdn which i have been since march

I am guessing because you don't charge or remit taxes....

I sell them for $95 (which includes taxes and a 30% mark-up).

Do the math.

All Canadians should be trying to buy from Canadian sources... sure da and blowout look good in terms of base price for a lot of products... but you add on the extra shipping, extra time for delivery, possible delays and brokerage fees it just makes sense to stay in Canada. Lots of shops in Canada do their best to keep prices low for you guys including ourselves.
