The puts a new perspective on the situation in Atlanta. The club is hitting their distribution list of those who have previously been a ticket package holder, with my name on that list due to a 3-game package in 2007-08 to get All-Star tickets. They are encouraging the e-mail list attend a Select-A-Seat event to get on board now before opening season ticket packages to the general public. Here is what strikes me as odd.

1 - The event is next week. That seems a bit early to me (Hurricanes usually hold their event in late July) with their season ticket base, as they can tier people based upon the date they lock into the plan and then prioritize seating preference.
2 - The event is scheduled to last only an hour. I don't know how many people they'll have on hand to help, but an hour is not long at all for this type of event unless you are not expecting anyone to show up or have an overwhelming set of season ticket seats locked in.
3 - Lower level seats start at an average of $23 per game. Granted, some of these could be obstructed view, but that price is a steal for any club's lower level seats, and in most arena's a steal for any seat.

Well, just thought I'd share this with you, thought some of you would find this either shocking or amusing.

That shocks me more than anything. Even if the average seat in Atlanta is $40 (average cost between lower bowl and upper bowl seats combined) and you sold out every game, that would be less than $30,000,000 in seat sales overall for an 18,000 seat arena. That's in comparison to a market like Vancouver, whose sold out arena's average ticket prices more than pay for the Canucks payroll, along with half of Atlanta's.

That's crazy. I wonder what sort of additional revenue the Thrashers generate from parking, concessions, etc. because they sure aren't pulling in enough from the gate.

You can barely get 2 beers in Vancouver for that price...lol.

Hey...If you can't sell out your arena with tickets prices that cheap...perhaps it is time to re-locate. I received an email from the Canucks yesterday regarding 3rd round playoff seating. Tickets START at $137, and that will be the nosebleeds at the ends of the arena. However, I'm sure they sold out in about 1.5 minutes (if that).

Revenue sharing. lol they dont care how much they make off the thrash, they just want the seats to stay warm for the Hawks games the next day.

Phillips Arena has it's own stop on Atlanta's subway system (MARTA), so they probably don't make anything of substance on parking.
