Anyone else notice this on ITG cards? "Does not warrant the authenticity"??

So I finally got in the mail the last Vladislav Tretiak card I needed for the Decades set and I was pretty happy that I finally completed it....until I read the back of the card. Well I checked the backs of some cards further back up to the 2010/11 Between the Pipes series and noticed it on them as well.

So how would you feel?? To be quite honest, this irks the hell out of me right now. This is the first time I have seen this and I am really not sure what to think now. It just showed up recently, written on the back in the fine print, which to be honest, I don't really look at the fine print since it has been the same writing there for years. So do I now question my whole collection? Why has this all of a sudden shown up just recently? There has to be a reason. As far as I know, I think that ITG has used 3 different jerseys but I am not positive. So what do I have now? Manufactured jersey patches/swatches? This really does not sit well with me at all. If anyone can shed some light on this, it would be appreciated. Maybe there is something I am missing. But it is literally making me ill.

Has anyone else had it on cards with any other players' memorabilia?
 
They are not saying that ITG does not warrant it, they are stating that the player depicted does not do so. I think it's more of a protection thing for the players in terms of liability. Alot of the memorabilia is not obtained directly through the players but through other 3rd party sources.
 
I would say that's a new level of liability. Sometimes players provide memorabilia and most times it's from a third-party, I guess by putting that on the card they are saying Tretiak had nothing to do with the sale of that jersey to ITG.
 
Likely the memorabilia was obtained from a credible source with documentation/photo matching and the usual hallmarks.

I'm thinking it's more of a "The memorabilia didn't come directly from me, so I can't say with absolute certainty that this was my gear," kind of statement. I've seen other USSR/CIS era jerseys that didn't come from the players, but you could say with a great deal of certainty that they were 1. that particular player's 2. bore many of the hallmarks of those jerseys that would identify it as game used for a team of that era.

Keep in mind that during those times, equipment and jerseys were recycled over and over - not just for the national team, but down the line as well. In 1991, IIRC, one of the requirements for their participation in the Canada Cup was being completely outfitted with new equipment and uniforms, which CCM provided. Look at pictures from that tournament, most, if not all of the Russian players' helmets and gloves were completely brand new, with the warning stickers and the ear guards still attached to the helmets fresh out of the box.
 
I read it as Tretiak being the only one who doesn't warrant the authenticity.

Maybe he hasn't seen the jersey used and so can't be 100% sure.

ITG has gained my trust when it comes to using game-worns. I'm not worrying about it.
 
I know that there are many items purchased from third parties such as Classic Auctions and such, but I don't have any other players' cards with this statement. Is it suggesting that Tretiak can't verify it, so he doesn't want his name linked to it? If that was the case, half the cards out there would have to have this legal statement on the bottom of them since so much of it came from third party purchases. I am trying to figure out why it is just him, unless there are more out there.
 
Its stating Tretiak himself had nothing to do with the ITG's aqusition of the jersey. It is still legit and game used just if you meet tretiak showed him the card then asked if it was really his jersey he wouldn't know.

I understand your fear. But the fact that you have "literally" become ill from this puts you in the "Super-Dork" category. :devil:
 
No one will change your mind on how you feel in this situation. It is your PC, you will have to decide whether your PC needs to be verified by the player, the maker, or by both. Like collecting only autos, and deciding to collect only non-stickered.
 
I think we already put a lot of blind faith in the trading card industry that memorabilia and autographs are authentic. I would frankly be stunned if there wasn't an athlete or two out there who either signed his stickers not in the presence of a manufacturer authority or even worse, had a proxy sign them.
 
Did you send Dr Price a question about this? I am sure his answer will point you on the direction you want to go with your collection.

It's a figure of speach Jeremy! I think is more from my alcoholism! It's not like I am puking at my desk, yet! But thanks for the "Super Dork" comment. I feel better about myself already! Back to the couch to talk it out with my Mexican therapist, Dr. Corona

Thanks but I never pulled it. I bought all but a couple Tretiak cards in my collection. Spent a butt load of money on it so I just want to make sure it is authentic.
 
Sorry I am just seeing this post for the first time. The poster just referred me to it in his PM to me.

Thanks for the replies, you are dead on. ITG goes a long way to insure the authenticity of our memorabilia and I appreciate your confidence.

In his new agreement with us, Mr. Tretiak's people asked for this clause out of a sense of caution. I had no problem putting it in as Mr. Tretiak's participation is important to ITG.

All of our Tretiak equipment's sources are impeccable.

I have no problem with ITG putting this statement on the back of the card. I have 100% faith in ITG's memorabilia being legit. Their reputation speaks for itself.

I certainly cant say the same thing about Upper Deck.......
