About 6 years ago I was getting pretty bored with the hobby. I only collect Richter and at the time not many Richter cards were being produced. I decided to try to complete a set. I figured that would keep my interest in the hobby high enough until they started producing more Mike Richter. I decided to do the 05/06 UD Ice Glacial Graphs set. I got most of the cards within a year but a handful were next to impossible to find. It took me 2 years to find the Gordie Howe, 3 years to locate a Brodeur, Rob Blake took me about 3 years as well, The damn Mike Modano took me over 4 years to find and when I did it cost me an arm and a leg. That damn card must've been SSSP.

Fast forward to now I'm just missing the Gretzky and Crosby...My hatred for Crosby is so strong I refused to own a card of his....Anybody who signs a card twice because they believe nobody else should be on a card with them is somebody I dont' want to collect but I digress.... told myself although the Crosby is readily available I won't buy it until I get the Mac Daddy SSSSP of them all, The Gretzky Exchange....In the past 6 years I had 2 shots at it....One went for 1200 and the other almost 900...Until now....And in my opinion an absolute STEAL for under 500

its gonna go nice with the rest of them....Now Im one big headed Penguin away from my first completed set....Should be done by the end of the month!!

Congrats  I was watching that auction and thought it was a massive steal.

Hard to believe how short printed some of those glacial graphs are and how rarely some of them show up. I am doing the 07-08 set and need Roy, Koivu , Messier and Lemiuex. (I have never seen teh Messier or the Lemiuex yet.)

those ice glacial graph sets are some of the nicest out there. That's one concept I wish they would continue to other products.

Im a collector of messier and ive never seen the messier GG either....do you know if it was definitely made?...In my set they listed Shane Doan on the checklist and I could never find one...I called UD and they told me it was never made...I love the way the GG sets look and 07-08 is a stacked checklist too....its gonna look great when youre done...Good luck and dont give up on those SP's....These GG sets can cause severe hair loss and lack of sleep

Not sure on the Messier, I should contact UD to find out for sure. I was able to get Gretzky and Crosby in the last month, and just won the Thornotn on the weekend.

Go get the Crosby for yours and finish that set off.

A good way to finish off your set, by adding the Classiest Player ever, and then having to chase one of the biggest Egos... Ever...

Beautiful set, I would just hand make a caricature of Crosby's card and put it in the set to mock him.

Haha that would save me about 200 bills too so not a terrible idea. There's one up on eBay right now so I should have an updated post hopefully by next week

Good Luck with the Crosby and completing the set! And congrats on finally scoring the Gretzky, I can imagine that it was a very good feeling when it arrived in YOUR mailbox!

Great pickup - I'm only missing 3 for my set according to my checklist, unfortunately for me but fortunately for you, I haven't been on the bay in a month checking my searches - because if I had one of us would have paid more for that card, great steal.

I'm also still missing the Modano though. The other card on my list is the Doan - I'm assuming from the info in this thread and its absence in your pics that that one wasn't made.

Yea I know for a fact the Doan was never made so you can scratch that off the list. I was so surprised at how low the Gretzky went for. I think people just gave up looking for it. I was prepared to go to 800 and when it ended at 482 I nearly did a back flip. The Modano in my opinion is the rarest of them all. I've seen 3 Gretzkys since the set came out including this one but I've only seen one other Modano then the one I own since 2005. I wish there was a print run available for each card because I'd be shocked if there was more then 10. Also the one other Modano I saw was the sticker version. That's why I passed on it I wanted to go all hard signed. Good luck on completing the set. I still search the SPs I already have often just to see if they ever pop up. If I come across one I will definitely shoot you a PM. Again, good luck!!
