Thomas snubs the President......

Thomas is a known Tea Party supporter - hence his refusal to go. He has the right not to be there if he doesn't want to be.

I passed up the opportunity to meet Stephen Harper and Jim Flaherty. I didn't mind Harper at the time but Flaherty makes me physically ill. I had the right not to go, and extended it.

Why should he be forced to attend something he didnt want to be a part of??

Better yet, who in the hell do these people think they are that think they deserve an explanation of why he didnt attend. It aint none of your business why.

I could not have said it better myself

suck it up and be a man. stop acting like it's freaking adolph hitler. nothing more than petty, political grandstanding in an election year no less. he made it VERY clear it was because he has a problem with the President. he put that out there. could you imagine if a team was invited to the White House and 1 player was set aside and told "sorry sir, the president doesn't agree with your political leanings, so he would not like you to attend"? man up, Timmy and act like a Champion.

He should have went, plain and simple. It's all about respect. You may not have to respect the man in the office, but pay your respect to the office itself. James Harrison was a jerk for not going as well when the Steelers won.

Also, you should go because people fought for the right to have a choice.....just so guys like Tim Thomas have the right to not go if they want. I know that sounds *** backwards but I think you know what I mean here.....

People fight for our FREEDOM. Freedom to make our own CHOICES.

Tim Thomas made a choice. He has every right to do so. END OF STORY

sure he has the right. just like i have the right to sit in my seat during the National Anthem and talk on my cellphone. but i don't. i mean, i could and then say it's because i disagree with the President, but i don't. i don't because i respect the people that fight for my freedoms. like i said, be a man. you have the right to act like a baby, that doesn't mean you should.

Maybe Tim Thomas should burn an American flag on the ice before the start of his next game then? After all, he does have the right to do so. How do you think that would go over?

Oh come on Rob. Are you being serious? Thomas never once said he's anti-America. He has every right to not attend an EVENT, which is all this is

Thomas just posted his reason for not going, Peggy still hasn't fixed his credit card and he doesn't carry cash, so he couldn't buy a plane or bus ticket.......

Why are people saying that Tim is the one making the big deal about this? The sheer fact that he has not spoken to the media says that he's not making ANY deal about this. If he doesn't want to go, he's within his rights to do so. As for respecting the office of the President of the United States, if somebody is not American, do they have to respect the office too?

Do you think the President gives a rats *** if someone doesn't come to a photo op that only happens because it's 'tradition'? I seriously hope not.

Because that's the same as not going to hangout at the White House for an hour. Jeez, that you made that comparison is scary.

I know some of you don't have Facebook, so this was the reason Tim gave for not visiting

Tim Thomas' Facebook said:
I believe the Federal government has grown out of control, threatening the Rights, Liberties, and Property of the People.
This is being done at the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial level. This is in direct opposition to the Constitution and the Founding Fathers vision for the Federal government.
Because I believe this, today I exercised my right as a Free Citizen, and did not visit the White House. This was not about politics or party, as in my opinion both parties are responsible for the situation we are in as a country. This was about a choice I had to make as an INDIVIDUAL.
This is the only public statement I will be making on this topic. TT

Makes more sense than some of the rumors or ideas that some were suggesting. Maybe he'll run for office when Rask takes over.

I'm not naive enough to believe that when you're Tim Thomas, one of the most popular players in the NHL, a Vezina and Conn Smythe winning, All-Star goalie, you think the media's just going to ignore the lack of attendance. Thomas isn't an idiot. He knows that the media blows things up just as well as all of us here do (people on both sides of the issue, there's something we can all agree on).

He knew what he was doing.

This explanation shows his true intentions.

It may not be about "party" but it is clearly about "POLITICS". He saw an opportunity to make a POLITICAL statement on the team's time and he took it. If I were a teammate of his I would be demanding an explanation as to why he thinks his "message" trumps the team's celebration.

Good for him. No one should ever have to do ANYTHING they dont believe in.

(Thats the one and only good thing i will say about a Bruins player :) )
