Thomas snubs the President......

I guess this was Dave Hodge's attempt at comedy. At least I hope so...

Don't know if it's fair to point this out, but Tim Thomas has three children named Kiley, Kelsey and Keegan.

He better pray he gets to keep his job after a tweet like that

It's hard to respect the "leader" of the country when he's nothing more then a liar. I know I know, every politician is a liar, but this guy took it 10 steps further. Plus, the President is not really the "leader" anyways. He may be the face of the country, but most issues are out of his hands and he does not ultimately make the final decisions on what happens.

How many men and women are still over "there" dying right now when he promised they would all be withdrawn how long ago? Last time I checked, more soldiers have gone over "there" during Obama's tenure then when Jr. was in office. His promises to the veterans of the US, past and present, have also all been swept under the carpet, and he used the past veterans to garner votes with blatant lies, then stabbed them all in the back. The guy does not deserve anyones respect, especially from the US veterans.

As far as I know, TT never said anything specifically against Obama, but he may subscribe to Glenn Beck's views. See post below.

I don't get it.

***edit. I get it now. Could be obscure enough that it gets overlooked.

Now TT's personal views are going to get scrutinized. TT has said that the person he would like to most likely have dinner with is Glenn Beck. Is TT a mormon?

Glenn Beck also believes Obama is part of "Progressivism" which eats away at the Constitution. (From wikipedia) 'A collection of progressives, whom Beck has referred to as "Crime Inc.", comprise what Beck contends is a clandestine conspiracy to take over and transform America. Some of these individuals include Cass Sunstein, Van Jones, Andy Stern, John Podesta, Wade Rathke, Joel Rogers and Francis Fox Piven. Other figures tied to Beck's "Crime Inc." accusation include Al Gore, Franklin Raines, Maurice Strong, George Soros, John Holdren and President Barack Obama

I don't think we are allowed to discuss politics on the boards but this post has to be addressed. This post is completely inflammatory and full of inaccuracies.

If we are not allowed to discuss politics, my bad I didn't know, so the mods can delete as they see fit. If they choose to leave it, please let me know what you think all of the innaccuracies are. I am a disabled veteran, I followed his campaign very closely, I know what was promised to the veterans, and I know he lied and did not follow through on his promise.

That's not good. People have been fired for less inflammatory comments.

I also can't stand his explanation:

To clarify, yesterday's tweet was simply a satirical, tongue-in-cheek observation meant to be humourous and not intended to be offensive.

But it was offensive, and why hasn't he apologized?

I am curious, since you may bethe only person I know who collects TT, I'm curious if this issue will change your views on your collection or your future collecting habits? I would think that this issue would affect you more than any other person on these boards. I gotta admit, that you were the first person I thought of when this issue blew up.

Not at all. I collect him for his hockey career, and he's hardly the first player I collect to do something stupid outside the rink :owned:

I'd also like to thank most of the HI forumers here for recognizing that this is a discussion about a political decision, and not a discussion about politics. A fine distinction, but a very important one (especially if we want to keep this thread courteous and alive :D ).

Sorry, but to say this is a statement about his character, or that he isn't much of a team player, is pretty rich.

Where there's smoke there's fire.

A lot of reports coming out of Boston about Thomas' true colors.

I hope a few more Boston fans can give some more details on what is going on.

Supposedly a couple of years ago, when he wasn't playing well and subject to trade rumours, he had the 'B' taken off his mask.

Another reporter (from the globe and mail, I think) said a team official has called Thomas a '*expletive* selfish *expletive*'. Don't know if this was before the White House no-show or not.

Seems like a lot of Boston fans are calling into question Thomas' character and if he's still good for the team. His NTC is up at the end of the season.

Interesting point made by another columnist was that this was the Bruins organization's shining moment too. The Jacobs family who have waited 39 years to win another Cup and meet the president to celebrate. All that took a back seat to Tim Thomas. Rumour is that they are not pleased.

I'm sure that TT hoped that he was making a positive stance for his political beliefs, but I think it's hurt his cause instead. I'm sure he thought that a no-show would be a passive way of showing his displeasure to the current government. What he forgot was his profile on the team and what it meant to the US.

I had a co-worker years ago who refused to work the 2 inventory counts we had each year because it fell on a Sunday. He claimed religious reasons, and didn't have to show up. A bunch of other guys saw him as a slacker, or thought that they should claim the same thing so they don't have to show up for the inventory count. His actions did more harm towards his efforts of being a good witness of his beliefs to his co-workers. All he did was alienate himself from them. Turned into a running gag too.

You have to pick your battles. Within TT's rights, but not the smartest time to do it.

Innocent as doves, shrewd as serpents.

** IMO, Chara was the real MVP. His presence alone makes teams change their playing style. If Chara and the goalie work well together, the goalie's job becomes much easier.

So what you are saying is:

1. "SUPPOSEDLY" (your word, not mine) he had the B taken off his mask because he wasn't playing well or there were trade rumors. No verification or proof, just "supposedly".

2. A "reporter" (key word, reporter) claims an anonymous team official called Thomas a name, but we don't know when or why.

So these two events that no one has any proof of or won't put names to is the "fire" to prove Tim Thomas has no character. We also see a person being ridiculed and alienated because of their religious beliefs. Hmm, I'll stick with my beliefs in Tim Thomas as a good guy with good character and instead question someone's character who would believe "supposedly", an anonymous source who won't names and we don't know when it happened or why, and who would alienate and ridicule someone for their religious beliefs. Everyone who doesn't agree with Thomas not going is going to look for anything they can to try and smear his name in the press, and we all know the media would never write something that has no proof to it......

I said 'supposedly' because I heard it on the sports talk radio. I didn't read or hear it directly myself, so I didn't have enough info to say how accurate it was. It's not that there is no proof, it's just that I can't provide it right now. That's why I'm hoping that Boston fans could shed more light. Maybe I should have researched more info before posting, but I did ask for people to verify.

as for:
1) I guess we'll have to ask Thomas directly the reason why he decided to take the 'B' off his mask. But it does seem odd that he would when his name came up in trade rumors. It'd be a different story if he got the entire mask re-done, but it seems like the 'B' was just removed. Perhaps a TT fan can verify.

2) I didn't name the reporter, b/c it was on the radio and I don't know how to spell his last name, which sounded complicated. He's a writer for the Globe and Mail, so it's not some gossip mag or some random guy's blog. The article will be or is published so we'll see if it says the time frame or not. I don't know the time frame, but it doesn't mean that the reporter/columnist does not know or state when it occurred.

Usually, I assume people are generally okay people. As humans we have our flaws and selfish tendencies. We all have them. I don't always assume everyone is a 'good guy' because life has shown me otherwise. It's the exception rather than the rule when people act unselfishly. Maybe I have a more jaded outlook on life/humanity.

I have little verified information that tells me that TT is a 'good guy'. So before all this happened, he was just neutral to me. He did come across smug to me during the SCF, but that's okay because you need to have some confidence/arrogance to be a champion.

I guess it depends on the lens in which you want to see the situation. Just because there isn't any undeniable proof or if a source wants to remain anonymous, it doesn't mean it isn't true. Even the police rely on reliable "anonymous sources", who remain unnamed to catch crooks. Heck, Bin Laden was caught because of information from an unnamed source.

Same thing that anyone who wants to look at TT in a positive light will discount reports that show him otherwise. And we all know how unbiased people are when it comes to their political views...

Found the source:

Bruins Insider Joe Haggerty of CSNNE (I know this is the writers opinion)

But Thomas made a pretty symbolic change at the beginning of last season when he drained the Black and Gold colors from his goaltending pads and goalie mask after a summer of trade rumors. Thomas removed the Bruins logo from his mask and instead replaced it with an image of the lucky coin he wears around his neck.

The message was simple: From then on, Thomas was playing for himself first and the team second. He's obviously captured a Stanley Cup with that mentality, but it seemed to again be the case on Monday at the White House.

The other is Fluto Shinzawa of the Boston Globe.

“[Expletive] selfish [expletive],’’ one team source said.
