How would you prefer autographed cards sorted?

I would say either by Player, or by Set.


I can't remember which expo it was, but I actually sat down at your table and spent a couple of hours going through binders (maybe fall of 2010 ??). Everything was sorted by set, and I had an EASY time finding what I wanted.


I'm an Oilers collector, but the guys I'm missing are not going to be on certifed cards. I would prefer them to be pictured as an Oilers - but they're hard enough to find as it is (anyone got a Mike Zanier FT/FS - that's the kind of player I'm looking for!) that I wouldn't be picky.

Doing it by set - I know what sets to look for. If I want a Wayne Bianchin.... it's going to be from 77/78 through to 79/80. For me: Those are easy to remember (becuase I know when the guy played). A lot of players I'm looking for would be in minor league sets - so it's easy to jump to the binders you had full of minor league stuff too.

If you sort it by Team - then I have to remember all the teams that a particular player may have played for: That's MUCH harder to do.

I am looking forward to stopping by your booth again this time. Depending how much time I've got, will hopefully be able to go through the autos and find at least a couple more that I need.
 
I think player/team would be the way to go. It's seems easier to navigate to your needs.

By team and by player has always worked best for me.

By set is great for just base cards, but when it comes to autos it is a different game.

As far as autos, usually I am hunting a specific person, and I am not fussy on what set it comes from.

Can't wait to see the new haul of autos, I will try and stop in pre-show.

By team is what I would say.

I also love it when such organized cards are also placed in binders and not in those darn 3200ct boxes which just murderize your spinal cord after repeated rummaging.

Still, if organized by team, and if further alphabetized by player last name, it makes the hunt much easier and rewarding and makes it more likely that I would spend my money.
 
Wayne, remember that day I cleaned you out of Jets autos from the RT collection? How much easier would that have been if they were sorted by team....

I've only been to one expo and just the fact you are willing to sort them goes a long way. I spent time at a lot of tables looking through stacks......
 
I went with set as that's what I collect now. As much as some folks say a set collector can flip through looking for that set - that could be very time consuming, and quite honestly I don't bother. By the same token a thorough player collector likely knows which sets they need cards from (I know I did when I collected Spezza, and my wantlist was organized that way), so going through cards by set wasn't that hard.
 
Guys, thanks for all the input so far. I thought I would answer a few questions in here, and I'll have some more information at the bottom of this thread.

Yes, it will just be IP autographs. Other cards will be sorted into our regular boxes, which are done by set and year.

I know, Ameet. We basically have to stand over our Set Killer Corner boxes every Expo and tell people, "Please put that back where you found it." We'll have to do it here also.

Agreed, but unfortunately I think player and team collectors far outweigh the number of guys trying to finish their 1982 Topps autographed set. It's going to be a pain for them, but I think we have to go the team route.

The binders are great -- except they weigh a zillion pounds, take up too much space, cost a ton for pages and only one person can look at them at a time, lol! I prefer them, but it's gonna be the monster boxes. We will try to keep the players alphabetized, but see Ameet's post. I may need a yardstick to smack unruly hands.

We do the same thing with all our jersey cards, rookies, autographs and whatever. We have to have it organized for eBay (12,000 listings and climbing), so why not make it easier for you?

MORE INFO: We will be reorganizing all the Robert Thomas collection autographs this way also, and hopefully before the show. If you have specific needs from the 80s for Topps or OPC autographs (and I'm talking five or more from a certain year), please send me your list now so we can pull them for you before they get sorted in the other fashion.

If you watch our eBay store (Linky Link), these are going to start appearing there today. If there's something you want, just me a line and if we can make a deal before the Expo, we'll bring it there for pick-up or mail it out to you like normal. There are also cut signatures, 8x10, index cards, programs and much more coming out, so keep checking back!

Finally, I'll close the poll on Sunday and do the draw for the autographed cards on Monday and announce it here so if it's an Expo goer I can just give you the cards and hopefully get a picture!

I am more of a set/product buyer so I lean that way - looks like I am significantly in the minority here.

EDIT: I just noticed (or fully read) that you are talking about IP Autos. Switch mine up - I am with the group and would then prefer to have them listed by player/team.
