Hey guys. Going to be in Banff for the week, starting later on today. Is there any place for cards there? I'm going by Calgary but the ol lady doesn't wanna drive around Calgary and I'd like to avoid getting nagged at lol. Long shot I know but I thought I'd ask ha ha.

There was one in Banff when I was there a couple months ago, but his asking prices on singles were beyond ridiculous. I took a quick peek in his showcases, and had to stifle my laughter. If he had some hard to find stuff it would be understandable, but we're talking "$30 for a Paul Kariya RC" kind of off the wall pricing. He didn't strike me as the friendliest guy either. I don't even think he acknowledged me when I stuck my head in. (and the store is so small, that's about all you could do).

If it's still there, it was on the bottom level of a small mall on the main street, across the hall from a sports bar, I believe.

I've been there several times and you are correct, his prices are beyond what anyone in their right mind would be willing to pay. Nothing in Golden either in case you were going to do a day trip. Well I'm in Golden but hell I wouldn't even visit me.

Total side note, the sports bar is great! I was there and the card store was closed but I though I would wait and see if it would open up. I lost about 6 hours thanks to the friendly staff and then won a few hundred on the Vlt.

thats a great pub, I used to live there for a long time, the guy is ok, but his prices are stupid insane, its called premier sports and it is located in the lower level of the sunshine plaza, don't even bother but there is a liquor store next to it and a great ice cream/candy shop on the main floor, lol, and if you want a great restaurant I used to work in Eden up at the Rimrock resort hotel

I agree with everyone that has already posted. The shop in Banff is a complete waste of time. Your best bet is tolerating your wife's nagging and stopping at Maple Leaf in Calgary.

I'll echo everyone else's comments... Avoid the shop in Banff and do whatever you can to stop by Maple Leaf.. Great shop and Darren's not too bad of a guy either :p

I ate at Eden when I stayed at the Rimrock a couple of years back, great food!

Yes go to Maple Leaf in Calgary and tell Darren that you are the 3rd keyboardist in Loverboy.

Not a great one, but visited Banff last summer and that small shop was the first card shop I had visited since about 1994 :-)

If I remember correctly his (banff card shop) prices on singles was insane. $30 for a monahan OPC rookie...
And his prices on boxes were really bad too. For this years series 1 It was something around $7/pack of it and like $150 for a box.

Best bet is maple leaf in calgary!

First off, thanks to everyone for the kind words. Even you Hoju... although why would a legendary band like Loverboy have THREE keyboard players?

Second, if you take a quick peek at your map of Calagary, you'll notice we're only 8 blocks off the Trans-Canada Highway. You can pop in for a quick fix while the wife heads up the street to grab a snack at Tim's... and you'll be back on the road in no time. Sounds like a win/win to me... :D

What he doesn't tell you is it takes between 45 minutes and an hour to get from the western reaches of the city (C.O.P.) to Centre Street.

Even with that, it's definitely worth the trip. Whenever I am in Calgary, I make damn sure I visit Major Grief and Gouge.. errrrr.... Maple Leaf Sports.

:D

Looks like I'll take your guys advice and hit up MLS in Calgary tomorrow on our way home. Good selection of singles and wax?
