Question on Ken Dryden?

As some of you know I started my quest for hall of fame signatures. So I figured since i landed Richard and I'll for ken Dryden next. Well I search his autographs for sale and there's hardly any. Is there a reason why or just he doesn't like to sign?
 
Doesn't like to sign.

Early 90s 1972 Team Canada set is his only "certified" auto (I think from 1991?). It's a set commemorating the summit series (now that I think of it, it was probably from 1992... the 20th anniversary).

Aside from that, there never seems to be a large supply of IP cards out there either. I gather he was a little more warm to the idea of signing for people while he was in politics (I can see the conversation now: "Hi, can I have your vote?" "Sure, can you give me an autograph?" "No").

You should be able to find one, but they're not readily available, and almost never cheap.

I think I read somewhere that he had something against companies, or it being sold or something along those lines.

I have seen success with TTM and a few in person, but that was when he was in office.
 
I was fortunate to get Dryden's autograph at the Maple Leaf Gardens Auction (Nov 2000). He just randomly appeared in a back corner and signed for approx 100 people. I got the inside of my auction catalog signed. No inscription either :-) Even at that point he was notoriously restrictive with his autographs so I made sure to thank him for taking the time to sign for us.

Not neccessarily true. I got his signature once in the airport, no personalization. He was extremely gracious and pleasant to speak to and signed quite willingly. This was before he ran for public office, while he was still with the Leafs organization.

*Almost always personalize it. LOL

With cards it can be tough to fit in that extra writing, though I remember seeing 8x10s that had the personalization removed with Windex or whatever people use.
 


This is the real deal, but even so you need to make sure it has the swirl mark/thumbprint texture to ensure it was a pack pulled copy

Also only the pack pulled signatures have the player name in gold letters vs. white letters as well to go with the swirl print that was added to it
 
I see one of those listed. I might have to put his autograph aside for a little while than. I did not realize his was so difficult to acquire!! You guys have been very helpful :)
 
I lve bought and sold a few of these. You would need to be VERY lucky to get one for under 350. There is a gent that I believe is a member here that owns the one on eBay that has been listed from 449-499 for quite a while. They do sell at that level with patience

I was on the same quest several years ago. I got his signature at an all-candidates meeting on one of his cards when he was running for re-election. He did personalize it, but I was happy he did. He's a tough signature to get, but not impossible.

Basically, I think he just doesn't like to see his autographs being sold and doesn't want to be involved in the sports memorabilia business.

Maybe try writing to him at McGill University where he lectures from time to time.

Another tough person to get is George Armstrong.
 
Yea obviously I wouldn't sell it. I'd love a personalized auto, I actually prefer them to be honest. I cherish my Gordie Howe auto from when we met.
 
It took me a set of very fortunate circumstances to get this autograph. I won't go into details but he was gracious enough to sign for me. Mind you the marker we borrowed from the office was running dry. Mind you it was great to meet the guy.

I did also purchase an IP auto from a person I know very well. Normally I dont buy IP autos but I decided to go with it for a Dryden auto.

I have seen him in many places and he is not a signer. He doesn't like to do it very often. Superb guy to talk to however. Very nice chap
