Dear .................

We're updating PayPal's User Agreement (the "UA") and our PayPal Website Payments Pro and Virtual Terminal Agreement (the "Pro/VT Agreement"). All of the updates below will go into effect immediately unless otherwise stated.
We encourage you to familiarize yourself with the updates. More details are available on our Policy Updates page and highlights can be found below.
We're updating:
•

our UA to provide updated contact information for PayPal Canada;
•

our UA to include information for our merchant customers on how to contact the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada (FCAC) in the event that you are unhappy with the resolution of a dispute between you and us;
•

our UA and the Pro/VT Agreement to update the fees that apply to Canadian sellers selling to buyers located in the United States. These fee changes will go into effect on April 13, 2016; and
•

our UA regarding how we may amend the Agreement, provide you with important notices and your right to terminate your relationship with us without cost or penalty.
If you don't agree to the fee changes, you may terminate your relationship with us by closing your Account before April 13, 2016, and won't be bound by the amended terms.

I think the update to the fees may only apply to you if your primary currency is set to Canadian dollars. My default currency is USD and the note I received said the fee increase did not apply to me.

I am set to U.S. currency as well. I took from it that it will still affect fees for most people.
Hope I am wrong though.

I see now that the base charge for receiving payments as a merchant will be 3.7%, and that will be on top of the cut that eBay is already taking. Gouging at it's finest. So glad I don't do this for a living. I will be exploring the "terminating your relationship" clause soon.

Thankfully I don't need hockey cards to survive. Yes, a negative thing to post on a sportcard forum, but it's the state of the world today so it's relevant. I've been buying/selling for the better part of 25 years but the current state has pushed me past the point of not caring any more. I have no problem walking away from the hobby as I'm sure many, many others are (or have).

So to answer your question ... eBay cornered sellers to use only PayPal starting about a half dozen years ago. If a seller does not choose to receive PayPal there are no real options.

fritz that is the exact problem with this global corp no one out there to offer same options but for cheaper and they know it so why not screw over your loyal base the helped build you up to where you are now. Seems like the right thing to do ..................Ebay probably didn't make as much as last year so they call that a "loss" and now have to make up that loss and more to stay on track for their future forecasts lol.

Yes, which does not sound like much but for an item that sells for less than 10 dollars that's a minimum of an additional 3%.

I get being upset about the money out of pocket but this is way easier (and, in the end actually saves money) from the early days of eBay where it was cash, check or money order through the mail.

The time, money and hassle that comes with dealing with returned checks is worth the fee alone - throw in there some security as a seller (not perfect but still very good in my opinion) as well as the benefits that have come with the partnership with the Post Office (ease of printing packages, tracking uploaded automatically, and significant discount) and it makes it a complete no-brainer to me.

Now, maybe you guys north of the 49th don't get all of the added benefits that we do down here so I get the frustration but I largely think that Paypal and eBay have, overall, done well for the hobby and have made our lives ridiculously easier than they were many moons ago.

Does this mean that if you are set to USD as a primary currency the fees do not change? Seems a simple enough fix if thats the case. If not you are right. Gouging at its finest indeed. Just means that the price that most people will charge for S+H is most likely on the rise also.

I guess you could also look at it in a good way. Card shows/B+M store business should go up with the increased fees for selling online.
