Taylor Hall Traded to the Devils for Larsson

devils fan if hall and Henrique work their magic like they did here in Windsor......... youre in for a treat
they were both on the back to back memorial cup championship team in windsor

this is as bad as the leafs deal with new jersey........... devils got the leafs first round pick for a chance at eric Lindros for tom kurvers.
They got scott neidermayer that year with the pick

I'm sorry but the Oilers franchise get what they deserve, they are nothing more than fat talent-pigs that are irresponsibly impacting the quality of the NHL. They've continually squandered top talent that could be helping the league toward growth in other markets. Instead the top talents ends up in purgatory due to inexcusable ownership decisions.

I can't wait to see their next bone-headed decision(s).

Long live the Devils franchise!

Exactly the reason they should have asked for picks. A first rounder might have been a stretch, but a second and maybe another later pick would not be unreasonable. Keep the cap space and get a few more trips to the podium on draft day.

I'm sure they asked for more but the premium for d-men is high right now. With free agency 48 hours away they probably just took the best offer. I think it's a good deal for the Oilers just from the perspective of turning the page and looking to make McDavid the clear face of the team going forward.

Edmonton probably couldn't get any free agent dmen to talk with them and the ones that did priced themselves to high to go after. Larsson is only 23 years old and signed for the next 5 years and probably the best they could get for Hall. If Edmonton signs Lucic they land a top 4 dman and a big nasty winger.

For an RNH or an Eberle, sure. Not for Hall though, he should have been worth more than that. And if he is setting the price that low on his best available asset what will he take for the first two guys I mentioned? A bag of pucks and a meatball sub?

Poor McDavid will have nobody good to play with if Chiarelli keeps this stuff up

I think McDavid will be fine with Puljujarvi and Lucic on his wings.

Being Devil's advocate here (pun intended) ... but ... doesn't freeing up salary cap space allow the Oilers to get REALLY adventurous? As in Stamkos adventurous? As in the next 7 or 8 years of McDavid-to-Stamkos adventurous?

Young generational player, Oiler tradition, new arena ... just sayin'. If Stamkos is looking to win that's got to be attractive to him.

Stamkos has re-signed in Tampa.

Stamkos is already staying in TB, that was announced in amongst all this other craziness today.

Funny how Taylor Hall and Tyler Seguin were the best two players in the same draft and they BOTH get traded by the same GM. Has that ever happened before?

Going to Edmonton to win? That's straight up comedy.

He signed a contract but there were whispers of a sign-and-trade. Signing with Tampa gets him an 8 year contract. If he signed in free agency the longest he'd get would be 7.

Paying Stamkos 8.5 a year really ties the hands of the Lightning who have lots of other players left to sign and looking for raises. Only 9 mil under the cap right now with Killorn and Kucherov left to sign now and Drouin, Johnson, and Palat next year. And oh yeah, they might also want to hang on to Hedman who becomes a UFA at the end of the 17/18 season and is only making ~ 4 mil now.

I don't want it to happen, but you have to think that McDavid in his prime is going to make a difference, no? Weren't the Penguins a 58 point team the last full year before drafting Crosby?

Multiple sources saying it is not a sign and trade.

Wow, not much love for Adam Larsson. It's not all about points, I think he was stuck in a system he wasn't 100% comfortable with as well. I think he's going to be a dynamite d-man in this league, it's not like they traded Hall for a John Merrill or David Schlemko.

Crosby got some help early on when Malkin showed up, the Oilers may have just traded their Malkin away. Signing Lucic might help, drafting Jesse might help, but trading Hall? That's a lot of scoring to replace. Cap space could have been freed up some other way.
