I think we will see a LOT more of these before the expansion draft:

Carolina Hurricanes acquire exclusive negotiating rights for Scott Darling

Gotta say I really like this move. Canes can expose both Ward (who's going nowhere) and Lack (Who is far easier to move). Also means the BlackHawks don't lose Darling in the expansion draft which (would have been a given).

Darling is unrestricted I believe so they wouldn't lose him in expansion draft but they would have lost him on July 1st for nothing.

I'd expect Raanta to get traded before the expansion draft as well. Wherever he ends up I'd put 1 in 2 odds he gets shipped back to an Eastern Conference team. How far a drive is NYC from Philly again?

Darling signed for 4 years with a AVV of $4.15. Good for Darling. Seems risky for the Canes. While we're at it. A couple of days ago they said Kings fielding offers on Bishop.

I wonder what Dallas would be willing to give up to take on Niemi's cap hit?!?

I'm sure the Nucks might consider it for the right pick.

Dallas could buy out Niemi or Lehtonen I'm pretty sure.

Both can be bought out. But if they sign Bishop, they will have about 10 million in their tandem plus another approx. 2 million in a bought out goaltender. Not an ideal situation.

Niemi will be easier to move. My thoughts were Niemi, a 2nd, a 3rd, maybe a prospect to NJ for Kovalchuk. Rumblings have been 2nd + prospect for NJ to broker deal with Kovy. Dallas would need to sweeten the pot to dump salary.

No real complaints about the AAV, but the term is risky. I'm glad the Flames avoided this. Bishop is a good to decent goalie who's numbers fell off a bit last year. Its the health that concerns me with Bishop. Seems to always run in to injury trouble,

I'd really like the Flames to add Raanta.....His age, body of work, and cap hit are very intriguing.

My prediction (100% margin of error) Lehtonen stays (who's going to take him?), Niemi gets bought out (far cheaper buyout hit) and heads to Europe.
