So just before Christmas, I got the best present of my life, my baby boy Henrik. Along with him came about six weeks of sleeping on the living room sofa as he would basically only sleep in someone's arms. So what to do when you're awake for most of the night holding him in one arm under the pale glow of the Christmas tree lights? Why, Upper Deck ePack to the rescue - Compendium Series 1 came out right around that time... working on the Canucks team set rainbow with my one free hand was the perfect way to occupy myself
Of course OCD kicks in, so when series 2 and 3 came out, well I had to complete those rainbows too. Not really sure what I'm going to do with them now that the team set is finished... it was a fun activity to work on during sleepless nights, but it's not quite one of my passion projects like my Sedin or Lord Stanley's Mug collections, but that's something to figure out another day. In the meantime, enjoy the rainbow! For those not as familiar with ePack / Compendium, the base sets of each series are 300 cards - digital only. You can exchange 10 base for a blue, 5 blue for a red, and 5 red for a gold, so each player rainbow takes 310 base cards to accomplish.
Funnily after looking at my scans of the Series 3 cards (the last 12 players) I was going to go on a rant about UD's quality control being crap because the gold cards look so washed out, but then I went back and looked at the actual physical cards and don't see any real variation between the series, so now I'm thinking after years and years of scanning my trusty ol' Epson all-in-one printer (that long ago died as a printer) is now on its last legs as a scanner as well. Time for me to go dig up that useful thread that came up earlier in the year about better scanners and go buy myself a good one.
