Loved the look of the 13-14 BTP Masked Men Auto's when they first came out. Of course got the Luongo ASAP and figured I'd pick up a few other bigger names. With a production run of only 9 copies and 70 in the set I never really thought about it.

Fast forward 4 years later, I'm at 68/70 cards in the checklist!!!! Chasing such a large set with such a small print run has been fun, but I have been over a year now, checking every day on multiple sites to find the last 2. No luck

I'm not about to give up, but I'd like to hear what others do in these situations. I gave up on the 04-05 SOTT set cause I couldn't find the Lecavalier. A month later it showed up, so I learned my lesson.

And if anyone can find these cards, there will be a massive reward for you

My first thought would be to reach out to Brian Price and confirm they were made and search worthpoint and ebay completed listings just to see if a copy has surfaced at all. I would find it frustrating to be looking for the cards if they were never produced. It will look fantastic though if/when its completed. Good luck tracking them down. Perhaps both have a super collector and they are hoarding their cards.

Chris, the stuborness in me wouldn't let me quit although I was close.

Collecting the 04-05 itg franchises master set is massive and when all that stuff went down with ITG a few years ago, I got soured and quit it. Just after this years expo sitting in a bar at TO airport I come across a piece accidentally that I missed out 10 years ago and hit the bin.Maybe it was the new Pearson IPA but honestly still not gun ho as I was on competing it but if something shows up then fine, but it's not shelved. I'm also working on the 12-13 Panini Classics master set and almost done that and cards showing up on that set is very slow but they do pop up.

Guess what i'm trying to say if your in too deep, it's hard to let the set go. Imagine when the set is completed after such a hard chase...think on that

Good luck

Just keep plugging away with Daily/Weekly searches

I've been working on the 2000-01 Topps Heritage Master Set since Day 1. Still need 2 /10 Autoproofs.

Never give up. You are so close and when you think about it, the chase is the most fun part of collecting anyway. Keep the dream alive!

I've been plugging away at several sets now for years. Some of them are down to a single card which I haven't seen at all. Less work to wait it out than to jettison everything.

Being that close to the prize - I'd continue and not give up. However, I have been at that place where I've decided to not pursue a certain project and have liquidated what I have. Case in point, I had about 150 of the 200 for this year's OPCP Rainbow Orange /25 set. Loved the cards, enjoyed the chase, but simply wanted to collect other stuff, since all my budget was going into that pursuit. It was tough to move on, but I realized I wasn't really a set builder, and preferred sticking to collecting graded rookies as I had in the past. But as I said, in your case, I would still encourage you to press on to finish it, since your very, very close.

I had done the 99-00 BAP Millenium Signature set - with the exception of two cards - the Gretzky and the Hasek autos. I was holding out when I worked out a trade for a Hasek - I sent my end Double Registered and it got to the intended recipient. On the other hand, I never received my end of the trade. A USPS investigation was launched and nothing ever came of it. I was so disgusted by these events I unloaded it all and took a break from collecting. Mind you in those years since that release, I have yet to see another Gretzky or Hasek auto from that set.

I have reached the point of exhaustion of doing a set and giving up but I’ve also been rewarded when I got the Coffey auto in the Oilers Collection Franchise Ink set to finish it off. Now what it cost me to get is another story but it was a set killer

I've been chasing down three cards from a 2004-05 21-card subset for 13 years now. Doesn't help that two of the three cards are Vezina and Cyclone Taylor. YIKES! :loseit:

What they look like:

Some day.....it is what I always say. I did get the last card in this subset 15 years of chasing: 2000-01 ITG BAP Memorabilia All-Star Ticket

So it can happen!

When you stop having fun is the best time to pack it in. We had the most complete Luongo collection out there possibly spanning his first several years, and once the influx of multi player cards came out in 07-08, we stopped. It's a hobby after all. With a set being so close to complete, I'd personally stick it out in hopes of the cards coming up at some point.

I think this says it best. If this hobby stops being one of fun in some form, then it's time to either step away or end a project.

Two stories about my searches...

When Captain-C first came out, I managed to snag half of the Sakic "C" through C&C when they pulled it as a part of a break. Worked out a deal and got it. So then I'm waiting for just one silly card. Forum searches, Ebay saved searches, Worthpoint, Facebook, Twitter, Photobucket...Earlier this year low and behold it popped up on Ebay. Made a very generous offer and it was mine. About five years in the making!

Since 2012-13 I have been working on the ITG History of Hockey Great Moments in Hockey History set. It's a 144 card set featuring great memorabilia from the greats of the game. More than half of the set is limited to /10 print runs, many with highly coveted vintge memorabilia. I am down to just one card (Habs Win 5th Straight Cup if anyone has it!), and I will not let it rest. I haven't even seen an image of the card. I have plans to display the set and I won't do so until it's complete. The thought of how great it's going to look up on the wall keeps me searching every little nook and cranny of the internet for it. I thought I had it tracked down as Priban on SCF had it, but he informed me months after I sent him a PM that he sold it at a show. I have opened cases of it looking for it. One day it will be mine!

I'm still having fun with the chase, however frustrating it might be. But when the day comes where I find it, the rush will be unreal!

My annual Canucks HG team set stopped at 15/16, due mainly to e-pack and sellers who think they've hit a jackpot with a Derek Dorsett HG.

So there's one I 'gave up on' so to speak... more of a not continuing thing though.

However, I have been working on a master set of 03/04 Black Diamond since the day it was released. I'm still working on it, and will continue to work on it until the day I can no longer click a mouse / have dementia / don't have access to a computer.

It's basically what keeps me in the hobby.

Don't give up on it. Patience. I only get one or two cards a year for my BD set, sut getting them keeps me interested.

Keep going. I had a few really tough sets that I was almost complete and gave up on; and regret to this day. The two you are missing may be sitting in some unopened boxes that will be broken at some point...
