Jack of all Trades - The Movie

Things that people don't know about Jack E.

He was married to my wife's best friend. That's why I am in the movie both at Stu's Bar Mitzvah and at the Expo.

He was the one who found the name Parkhurst and was my partner when Parkhurst started in 1990.

However, Jack E. had no patience and when Pro Set went bankrupt in 1991 he wanted out of Parkhurst and he was bought out. He couldn't wait until I did the second licensing deal with Upper Deck in 1992.

The movie is quite good and quite sad at the same time.

One thing is true, Jack E. was at the heart of our hobby very early in the hobby.

He just made some very bad business decisions and some very bad family decisions as well.

See the movie for yourself, there are many lessons to be learned.

Just saw that Shaw cable subscribers will be getting Superchannel as a free preview starting June 15 (ends July 2) and it appears that JOAT will be playing within that window.

Get the PVRs hummin'.

Super Channel is on free preview for Rogers subscribers too. I watched it on Rogers On Demand last weekend. Really good documentary! Although now I want one that focuses entirely on the hobby boom.

Also available to Telus TV subscribers for the same time frame. Just watched it on the SuperChannel on Demand station tonight. 90 minutes of my life I can't get back...

Watched it last night... it wasn't really what I was expecting as the human story was much more compelling than the card story. As Dr. Price stated above - lessons to be learned for sure.

Pretty good documentary. I watched it with my dad (fellow card collector) last night via Shaw Video on Demand and it sparked some pretty good conversation about the card industry and theories as to what happened.

"Wait till you grow up and then you can look for me."

Pretty eerie stuff!

Just discovered that this documentary is on Netflix in case any one else is interested and didn't see it when it first came out.

(Small world: Simon Shohet, the Cinematographer lived just down the street from me when we were growing up.)
