So UD posted this on their FB showing 2 of Boesers cup 1/1's including his Exquisite shield auto have smudges. They apparently consulted with a couple of hobby stores and decided to keep them in the product instead of pulling them.

IMO I think it is good to keep them in the release despite the smudges but this sure does subtract from the appeal of the cards, especially as he is the key rookie in the product.

What are your impressions.

I personally never take issue if it’s the player smudging the card a bit. I consider it very personal like “oops, I’m a goofball”. Think about it like a fistprint in MMA.

Personally, I don’t think it ruins the appeal at all!

It doesn't detract from the cards at all, IMHO. As long as the auto is not smudged, I don't think it is an issue. An awful lot of people pissing and moaning about it on FB though.

%100 agree.

I'm cool with it too. Better they get packed out than not.

I think the one with the thumbprint is cool!

I agree, since it's not affecting the actual autos on the cards, it doesn't put me off at all...

I'm cool with it also. As long as these two big cards are still included in the product, then it's all good.

And besides, it's not the worst smudge in the world and doesn't take anything away from the card. Took me awhile to see them at first, honestly.

The fact they were even remotely considering removing these from the product entirely is just mind boggling. Make a post, address the smudge like they did, and move on. End of the day it is a 1/1 that is one of the main drivers of the product.

I think I might have told this story before, but ...

One of my regulars pulls an Ed Belfour autographed jersey card out of Ice in 2005-06. The card appears to have some sort of film on the acetate, like salad dressing or something, so I packaged it up and sent it in for a replacement. About six weeks later a package arrived and when the customer opened it, there was another of the same exact card, this one with a big thumbprint in the same stuff.

We looked at it for a bit and then I said, "Wait a minute ..." and smelled the card, then gave it to the customer. "What's that smell like to you?" I asked. He replies, "I dunno ... motor oil?"

Yup. Ed, a noted motorhead, must have been working on one of his rides and signed all the cards without wiping the grease and oil off his hands. This one he kept for the story, and not long after that, he pulled a Crosby signed patch card that had a big nailprint where Sid had been holding the card to sign it. Kept that one, too.

I think this was a really good business decision, especially considering the caliber of player involved. UD may have just enticed that many more people to break this knowing those cards are IN there, while appeasing countless others who are fed up with their excuses with regard to redemptions. Good job.

I'm honestly stunned they considered it given what they've let happen with other 1/1s. My 2008-09 Cup Briere/Biron dual shield looked like it was fed into a pitching machine and struck paint. I'm glad I was able to still sell it.

There's no proof that he smudged it, could well have been a helper moving them out of the way immediately after he signed them. Making sure they have a story is suppose to justify this? UD lost my respect years ago. They only give a crap about the bottom line, and very little towards their customers. A product this expensive should be close to flawless, IMO. If you accept mediocrity from them, that is what they will give you. They should have been redone.

"This certificate of authenticity proves it was Brock Boeser and not some handler or inept assistant that smeared ink on the card. Thank you for choosing Upper Deck, providers of spectacular errors and lapses in judgment since 1989."
