It would appear that with the recent demise of Chiarelli that the winds are a changing in "Oilerville" :whew:

First off:

Edmonton Oilers trade Cam Talbot to Philadelphia Flyers for goaltender Anthony Stolarz

The Edmonton Oilers have traded goaltender Cam Talbot to the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for 25-year-old goaltender Anthony Stolarz.

Talbot has a 10-15-3 record with the Oilers this season and carries a $4.1-million cap hit, but is an unrestricted free agent after this season.

In three-and-a-half seasons with the Oilers, Talbot won 104 games while registering a 2.83 goals against average and a .909 save percentage.

Next up:

Edmonton Oilers trade Ryan Spooner to the Vancouver Canucks for Sam Gagner

The Edmonton Oilers have traded forward Ryan Spooner to the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for forward Sam Gagner.

Gagner, 29, started his NHL career with the Oilers after being drafted by the club sixth overall in the 2007 NHL Draft.

He spent eight years with Edmonton from 2007 to 2015, and has since played with Arizona, Philadelphia, Columbus and Vancouver.

Spooner was acquired from the New York Rangers in November 2018 in exchange for forward Ryan Strome.

In 25 games with the Oilers, Spooner scored two goals and one assist.

Defenceman Brandon Manning on waivers

The Edmonton Oilers have placed defenceman Brandon Manning on waivers, the club announced Monday.

The move will allow the club to bring veteran Andrej Sekera back to the big leagues following his conditioning stint in the AHL.

Edmonton traded away forward Drake Caggiula and defenceman Jason Garrison in exchange for Manning and Robin Norell back in December. The 28-year-old Manning posted one goal in 12 games for the Oilers, skating an average of 13:25 minutes per night.

Caggiula, who had seven goals and 11 points at the time of the swap, has posted three goals and six points through 16 games for the Chicago Blackhawks.

Sekera has yet to appear in an NHL game this season after dealing with an Achilles injury.

That team is toast....

Poor team defense and goal tending sunk that team along with the cast of players that surround the two big stars.

Lateral moves. Won’t change anything on the ice.

Most likely, correct.

Truth.

And now the return for Eberle is Gagner...who was once an Oiler and teammate of Eberle.

You mean the return for Messier! (Eberle part of the return for Pronger, who was traded for Brewer... you can go all the way back to Messier)

and another Chiarelli move being excised...

Why does everyone think he acted alone ? I guess everyone loves a scapegoat...

Sorry, I thought he was the General Manager.

Seeing how this org has been run for the last decade+ There is every reason to believe that Chiarelli did get to make moves he wanted to make (at least to some degree) but he had the ol' boys club making suggestions, and approving things.

As of today, right now, the "Free Agent GM" that everyone holds in high regard is Steve Yzerman. While I believe that he would have zero interest in taking the Edmonton Job - I don't believe there's a chance he'd turn anything around, if the people above him in the org chart don't also change.

These moves? Meh. They won't do much. Talbot was traded to free up cap space, so they could activate Sekera (who is a big upgrade on Manning). Gagner might be less useless than Spooner. Not saving the season... but good for Keith for trying.

Agreed. They also seem content on running McJesus into the ground as well in terms of ice time.

yeah the franchise is a complete sheetshow and an embarrassment to the NHL. Poor Connor, it isn't his fault he is trapped in that hellhole. No doubt he hates it there and wants out. That's why they are calling him McTrademe.

Why did he re-sign for 8 years than? Matthews just signed for 5 which only bought one year of FA for the Leafs. As much as I hate it only being 5 years it keeps the onus on management to keep a good team on the ice or risk him walking like Tavares did to the Islanders.

If McDavid really hated it in Edmonton he could have re-signed for 4 years after his ELC was up which would have walked him right to FA and a massive payday.

Edmonton still has a lot of money committed to players next year, and all their expiring contracts are 3rd-4th line guys making less than a million, and Tobias Reider. Lucic's contract is buyout-proof due to bonuses.

But if they miss the playoffs there's still a chance they could win the draft lottery, right? ;)

As great of a player as he is, he ain't all that smart, or he just wanted the money guaranteed. Can't blame him. Handcuffed the team, but it wouldn't matter anyway, not much they can do to help themselves. They'd be better off if they were run by one of the arena beer vendors.
