Hi Everyone,

As you may know, Hometown Hockey is in Enoch Cree Nation this weekend, and with the Indigenous focused event, they reached out to me and asked if they can show my hockey card collection during the game. It will be a very small piece and won't feature me but they will be talking about my collection. The producer told me that it would more than likely be shown during the 1st intermission but wasn't 100% sure. Anyway, keep an eye out if you can. Hopefully you guys can catch it!

Thanks.

Naim

hey
I think the clip of
some of your
hockey card collection
was aired for about 30-seconds.
but showed afew goodies

:)

The piece aired just after the network returned from a commercial break around the seven minute mark of the first period. Short but sweet. Congrats Naim!

Dave.

I've got to say, as an aboriginal person myself, the whole broadcast gave me shivers. I kept flipping over to the APTN feed to hear the guys call the game in Cree - their command of the language to be able to do that is phenomenal. So much of the culture was showcased in small ways (those Hometown Hockey beaded medallions were amazing) and to hear Grand Chief Littlechild talk about unity and balance as the guiding principles to live by was an important moment.

And of course, we got to see Naims card collection again, albeit briefly!

Thanks, Cory! Hometown Hockey this past weekend was honestly amazing. I felt so uplifted after I left the Hometown Hockey site and also watched the programming on TV. It made me feel really proud to work in Enoch and also be a part of the Indigenous community. I have so many good memories from the weekend. Also, I had no idea you were Aboriginal yourself.

Thanks for posting the video and congrats on your collection.impressive indeed.

Thank you, Jeff. It was a huge honour for my collection to be featured on Sportsnet. I had crazy butterflies when it came on the TV.

That feature was very cool. Huge congrats once again!

Thank you very much! I appreciate it!

Very cool!

Thank you. I feel the same way. :D

Thanks everyone! My family and I had an amazing time at Hometown Hockey. We got to watch the Indigenous NHL Alumni vs the Oilers Alumni and the Indigenous team won 9-3. We also got to meet legends such as Reggie Leach, Bryan Trottier, Grant Fuhr, Trevor Kidd (just found out he's Metis!), Cody McCormick, Arron Asham, and Jason Simon. If you follow me on Twitter (@naimcardinal) or on Instagram (@indigenousrookiecards) you can see all my photos from the weekend!

Shame your collection didn't get more focus on there, but hey, you still got namedropped and got a bit of national exposure. Any attention is better than none at all. Congrats!

I think every time something indigenous comes up, we reconnect on the fact I'm indigenous. :) Southern Ontario Ojibwe here. The engineering firm I am the president of is based out of Orangeville (just north of Toronto), but we're currently working in and around the Edmonton area at Paul First Nation and Samson Cree on water and wastewater projects (Design and contract administration). I was in Edmonton myself last week, though had to head out to Little Buffalo/ Lubicon Lake for a meeting.

I've got the whole pre-game and game still recorded and plan on going back through and rewatching again. As you noted, it was uplifting to have such a positive spotlight cast.
