Here is a Adam Henrique card I absolutely would love to add to my PC

2 years, maybe even 1 year ago I would've probably hit the BIN and been super happy to land this

https://www.ebay.com/itm/12-13-Pani...21c808c48:g:p50AAOSwrXZfC6A5&autorefresh=true

Now I submitted a best offer that I felt was fair, auto declined, went in higher auto declined again so I will sit and wait and probably never own it.

I'm OK with that now.

Anyone else have any stories? Any examples of cards they sit and watch now instead of just going and grabbing it?

A bit different from past posts, could be interesting............

Doesn't everyone? I currently have over 30 items on my Ebay watch list that I would gladly pull the trigger on if I felt the price was in line with their value. This is probably the most glaring example:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/LARRY-MURP...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649

Like you, some time ago I probably would've shrugged my shoulders, said "Oh well, I guess I gotta" and pulled the trigger. Now? Not a chance. I WISH I had this kind of restraint years ago at the start. It pains me to have it taunting me on my list, but I can't be stupid about it either and bid against myself. Those days are gone. Now, I need to pay what the market holds.

Yeah, here's one for me. Infamous seller around here. Funny thing is that I just noticed he listed the same card as an auction, starting at $200. I have much, much nicer cards in my collection that didn't touch three figures, so I'm not paying up for this. It isn't necessarily a target, just a card that I don't have, and at that price, I won't! Plus, I don't want to encourage the seller's habits. I'm afraid that if I pay up, he'll locate other rare cards and do the same thing.

There are a few scarce Odjick cards around at ridiculous prices, like 3+X the price I paid for similar cards in the past. I'm not in a hurry, not going hardcore like I used to. Leaf has overdone multiple very limited parallels, and I don't feel the need to have them all like before.

I just pick up the ones I really want now, if I lose out another one that’s just as cool will show up anyway.

I think everyone has been on both sides of it. I've taken the gamble of waiting it out and have been both burned by missing out and also ended up getting the card for a fair price. I have also just sucked it up and paid the price. I think it being a 1/1 gives a bit more power to the seller since it's the only one. I told this story on our most recent episode of Center Ice Card Cast, but I paid about $100 more than I wanted to for my Slavin The Cup Black auto 1/1. Did I want to do that? No, but I would much rather have the card than miss out on it and have "saved" $100.

Ive got the seller down to under half his listed price, and we are $5 apart. The fact he counter my last offer with and extra $5 made me decline.....but I will likely break down at some point and grab it

https://www.ebay.ca/itm/2010-11-UD-...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649

then there is this thing that I want so bad but the price may be the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen on ebay

https://www.ebay.ca/itm/10-11-UD-SP...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649

That spgu /3 patch auction just ended. Maybe that prices wasn't so ridiculous? Or did you break down and buy it?!

I was a huge kovy collector but ever since he left for the KHL his cards were basically non existent with UD. Now that he's back and cards are being produced again, I somewhat abandoned most and have just kept the higher end pieces. Only two cards I still want is his titanium rc /17 and 05-06 property of cup. Dats it

This one has annoyed me for a long time. This seller is known for scooping rare cards and holding them hostage. I have 4 of the 7 copies already and the most I paid for 1 is $100us. This is jersey numbered but still way over priced even at the 50% discount he has on it now.

When I first got back into the hobby, I had a few cards on my wantlist that are still, to this day, being held hostage by that seller. It was extremely satisfying to check the last one off of my list recently (that I picked up for $250 less than they have it listed for) without having to give them a dime.

I have a bunch on my watchlist that are in my opinion “overpriced” I ..time to time I Send the sellers an offer... and usually get rejected or an offer that is still unreasonably high... but every once in awhile I’ve managed to snag a few at an offer.. that the seller finally... lol .. accepted... Best of luck!!! Your not alone!! Cheers! Paul

Well, as owner of many 1/1's I don't see that price on the Murphy as unreasonable... 1/1 & great patch/ tag as well..
I sure as hell would not sell it for say $75..
No problem with it at $150.

Yeah... That one is crazy !

Well, if it has been sitting there for a while (especially as a 1/1) and no one has hit the BIN yet, then it is priced above the market value. How much, I don't know as I am not a Henrique collector. Like you, i will look objectively at PC cards and decide how close to reasonable the BIN is. Moet of the times, they are way too high and I pass. Another tactic is just to pout a lot of cards in my "watch" list just to see if the seller will send me a reasonable offer. If they send one for just 7% off, you know that that the seller is pretty set on the advertised price and I just pass.

There's many cards I watch and wait to snipe at the last minute, some I win but mostly I loose, oh well, can't win em all. I know a lot of them are not rare so loosing isn't a big deal but for what some end at is crazy low. I am always seeing buy it nows I want to pull the trigger on all the time but sometimes I don't but the longer I wait the quicker I know it will sell.

One card I wanna hit the bin on is a 2005-06 ITG Ultimate Goalie Gear Tiny Thompson glove/pad Silver its 49.99 I would hit the bin just haven't worked my way up to it

I will never understand his motivation.

On one hand, I mean... sure. Buy a rare card at a discount of a price, and jack it up. I do get that, to a degree. What needs to happen for that to work though - you take advantage of a poorly worded auction, low BIN where the seller let it go too cheap, etc.

I think it was in 2018, or maybe it was 2019, there was a Ranford BTP Letter up on eBay. Bidding war ensued. That happens from time to time. I didn't think much of it.

Someone else ended up paying more than I was willing to. That's okay. Imagine my surprise when it showed up on COMC two weeks later, at 5x the price (yup, he was the seller).

That kind of move I don't understand. He was actually in a bidding war for the card. How does he think he'll ever move it now?

I feel zero entitlement to any cards. Just because I collect a player, nobody owes it to me to let me have the cards I want, at a price I want. Your cards. your price. You don't collect a particular player, but you like really cool cards? That's fine too. When I lost the auction I was disappointed (I did want the card) but it's not the end of the world.

When I see that someone bought the card, just to jack it up to a price that makes no sense, that does bother me. Someone (me or others) would enjoy owning that card. That dude simply wants to show off how much money he has.
