I received a package today from a deal I did with a respected trader who I've done deals with in the past. When I opened it up the package was wet and was like what the hell. As I peeled the protective cards off the card in question I noticed the card was damaged as well. I figured great the package was caught in the rain somehow. As I opened the one touch the card was in I realized it was coffee! I was like what? I've never seen that before. Somewhere along the way there must have been a coffee spill and somehow it must have gotten through the bubble mailer.

I don't blame the trade like I said I've done deals with him before - I got a card from him just the week before - and he sent pics before the card went out. But maybe if it was in a team bag it might not have been affected. And again I don't blame him. Sometimes I don't have any laying around and ship out cards, while protected, without one. Won't be doing that again, especially for any high end cards.

A tough lesson to learn as it was a FWA of a star player but hey at least I now got a FWA 1/1!

That is too bad.

I always ship in a team bag with a decoy (unless it is in a rigid case) but always in a team bag.

Mail person spilled their morning drink I guess.

had that happen to me a while ago. Was for one of the SP'd 2000-01 Century Legends Game Jerseys. one of the last few I needed for my set. It was in a toploader with the top taped. There were still some droplets inside the toploader and when I took the card out, it was completely soggy.

Liquid has a way of find the most discreet holes. Sadly a team bag probably wouldn’t have helped much. But kudos to you for acknowledging your positive history with the guy!

That is a good point. Never thought that it still could have went in the little openings on the side. Maybe I should start taping around the ends. That might also be overkill in most cases.

Maybe for higher end cards.

If it was a lower end auto or insert I wouldn't have been as disappointed.

Yeah, didn't want to seem like I was blaming him.

It's just one of those things that we don't always think about. And you're right maybe it wouldn't have helped either but I know I will be buying more team bags in the future!

I use team bags for all my shipments. However, every local store and supplier is out of them right now. Everything is on back order.

Edit: my LCS finally got some in this week

hopefully this means mine can get jersey size top loaders. Lots of the other sizes but the haven't been able to get certain supplies for a long time.

The way I see it, the penny sleeve, toploader, one-touch is part of the deal and as such should be protected and not directly taped, I hate throwing away taped loaders. I always use team bags and if need be tape the seal on the team bag too. Just good practice and shows you care about the buyer.

Taped toploders is one of my biggest pet peeves in the hobby. If you “have” to tape for whatever reason at least use a good quality painters tape.

Agreed. More often than not this is how I recieve a lot of my ebay purchases (albeit low end stuff) even after asking/requesting to my cards shipped in a penny sleeve, top loader/one touch, team bag and bubble mailer.

I usually save the "taped" top loaders for when I am sending out items, although at this point I do not sell very much and I have a large box full of top loaders.
