Krug to St Louis. Brodie to Toronto. Pieterangelo, Hall, Hoffman are all still on the board. Wondering if Boston takes a run at Petro.

Flames, Chris Tanev agree to four-year, $18M contract

The Calgary Flames have added a second former Vancouver Canuck by signing defenceman Christopher Tanev.

According to Sportsnet, the deal is for four years and has an average annual value of $4.5 million.

Oilers sign defenceman Tyson Barrie to one-year, $3.75M deal

The 29-year-old is coming off a one-year stint in Toronto that saw him post 39 points through 70 games as a Maple Leaf, averaging 21:53 minutes of ice per night.

That campaign came after an eight-year run in Colorado in which Barrie topped the 50-point plateau on three occasions and amassed 307 points in all. He was traded to Toronto in July 2019 as part of the six-piece deal that sent forward Nazem Kadri to the Avalanche.

Overall, the Victoria, B.C., native has averaged more than 21 minutes per night for each of the past six seasons, and has racked up the ninth-most power-play points of any defender in the NHL over that span.

That figures to be a key aspect of the role he'll fill in Edmonton, as the Oilers find themselves in need of a new power-play quarterback with usual man-advantage facilitator Oscar Klefbom likely out for the year with a shoulder injury.

Devils add goalie Corey Crawford on two-year contract

The New Jersey Devils have agreed to a two-year, $7.8-million contract with veteran goalie Corey Crawford.

Maple Leafs trade Johnsson to Devils for Anderson, sign Bogosian to one-year contract

The 30-year-old Bogosian inked a one-year contract worth US$1 million.

Bogosian, split the 2019-20 season between the Buffalo Sabres and Tampa Bay, winning a Stanley Cup with the Lightning.

He's played 644 career NHL regular season games between Atlanta, Winnipeg, Buffalo and Tampa Bay, and has recorded 196 points (53 goals, 143 assists)

Anderson, 22, split his 2019-20 season between the New Jersey Devils and Binghamton Devils of the American Hockey League.

In 18 games with New Jersey, he recorded four goals and two assists, and had 34 points (15 goals, 19 assists) in 44 games with Binghamton.

Jets sign Forbort to 1-year, $1M contract

The Winnipeg Jets have signed free-agent defenseman Derek Forbort to a one-year, $1-million contract, the team announced Sunday.

Forbort spent last season split between the Los Angeles Kings and the Calgary Flames. He appeared in 20 games and notched one assist while logging just under 18 minutes per contest.

The Jets have made defensive depth a priority this offseason. On top of signing Forbort, the club also brought back Dylan DeMelo, Nathan Beaulieu, and Luca Sbisa.

Blackhawks ship Saad to Avalanche for Zadorov

The Chicago Blackhawks have traded forward Brandon Saad and prospect Dennis Gilbert to the Colorado Avalanche for defensemen Nikita Zadorov and Anton Lindholm, the team announced Saturday.

Saad, a five-time 20-plus-goal scorer, potted 21 goals and added 12 helpers in 58 games this past season. The 27-year-old is a two-time Stanley Cup champion with 81 career playoff games under his belt.

Sabres sign Eakin to 2-year pact with $2.25M AAV

The Buffalo Sabres added more depth down the middle, signing center Cody Eakin to a two-year contract carrying an average annual value of $2.25 million, the team announced Sunday.

New Sabres general manager Kevyn Adams already traded for Eric Staal earlier in the offseason to address the team's deficiencies down the middle. Eakin projects to serve as the club's third-line center behind Jack Eichel and Staal.

The moves give the Sabres the flexibility to play young pivots Casey Mittelstadt and Dylan Cozens on the wing - if they so desire - where there's less defensive responsibility.

No way Edmonton's going into the season with Koskinen/Forsberg, right? ;)

Oilers, goaltender Mike Smith agree to terms on one-year, $2M deal

The veteran spent two years in Calgary prior to his Oilers stint, preceded by runs in Phoenix, Tampa Bay and Dallas.

Smith will once again split time in the cage with Mikko Koskinen next season, with the latter signed on for two more years in Edmonton. Koskinen appeared in 38 games in total last season, one fewer than Smith, starting 33 of those.

Columbus Blue Jackets sign longtime Minnesota Wild center Mikko Koivu

The Columbus Blue Jackets signed longtime Minnesota Wild center Mikko Koivu to a one-year, $1.5 million contract on Saturday, the team announced.

Koivu has been a cornerstone of the Wild lineup for his entire 15-year career, but last month general manager Bill Guerin said the team would not be re-signing him.

Koivu, 37, is the only full-time captain the club has had -- he was appointed in 2009 after the role was rotated monthly over the first nine years of the franchise. He is the all-time Wild leader in games, assists, points and several other categories.

Koivu returned from reconstructive right knee surgery for a 15th season and had four goals and 17 assists in 55 games while playing mostly on the fourth line.

Looks like Buffalo is the destination for Taylor Hall.

Taylor Hall is teaming up with Jack Eichel in Buffalo.

The top forward on the 2020 free-agent market, and arguably top prize overall, has signed a one-year, $8-million deal with the Sabres.

Hall's deal, originally reported by Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, has since been confirmed by the team.

"I certainly hope that the players and coaches and our staff and the organization are excited, and our fans are excited," Sabres general manager Kevyn Adams said in a video conference Sunday.

"This is a great step. But we're in a position right now where we have to go earn it. We have to go get better every day."

Adams explained the short-term contract doesn't preclude the two sides agreeing to a lengthier deal next off-season.

"We believe in Taylor as a player and a person, and we hope this turns into a long-term relationship for both sides that works," he said. "We'll see where that goes."

Wow. Certainly didn’t expect that. Makes some sense I suppose. Gets a year to pad his stats with Eichel for a coach he liked playing for. Then get the big pay day next offseason when some teams have a bit more money to spend. He just better hope he doesn’t get injured.

Tyler Toffoli signs with Montreal.

The Montreal Canadiens have landed one of the bigger names left on the free agent market, signing forward Tyler Toffoli to a four-year, $17 million contract.

According to Sportsnet's Chris Johnston, the contract doesn't include any signing bonuses or trade restrictions.

A member of the 2014 Stanley Cup champion Kings, Toffoli has 145 goals and 300 points in 525 games over eight seasons.

The signing is the latest move in a busy off-season for Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin and puts the Canadiens slightly above the salary cap ceiling of $81.5 million. So far this off-season, Montreal has traded for goalie Jake Allen, defenceman Joel Edmundson and winger Josh Anderson.

Islanders sign Cory Schneider to 1-year contract

The New York Islanders agreed to terms with goaltender Cory Schneider on a one-year deal Monday.

The New Jersey Devils recently bought out the final two years of Schneider's contract. The 34-year-old split time during the 2019-20 season between the Devils and the AHL. He finished with a .887 save percentage and a 3.53 goals-against average in 13 NHL games.

The Islanders already have goaltenders Semyon Varlamov and rookie Ilya Sorokin under contract for 2020-21. The 24-year-old Sorokin signed with the Islanders in April and agreed to join the team for the upcoming season after spending the last eight seasons in the KHL.

He was traded to the Florida Panthers at the trade deadline as part of the deal that sent Vincent Trocheck to the Carolina Hurricanes. He appeared in two post-season games for the Panthers as they were ousted in the Qualifying Round by the New York Islanders.
