Series 1 LaFreniere

$15,000 is pretty insane considering Lafreniere's resume to date. Best case scenario he may be the third best player on his team in a couple seasons. I do believe he is a much better prospect than Jack Hughes. Lafreniere, who totally a natural winger could slide over and play C much better than Jack Hughes, a natural center, can at the moment. It's unprecidented but Hughes needed about 2-3 years in the NCAA before being rushed into the NHL. Lafreniere had the build and core/leg strength to be an NHL contributor last season.

I'd say as a prospect he is probably on par with Matthews/Eichel. Below guys like McDavid, MacKinnon, Tavares. From a hobby and league perspective it is probably the best case scenario to have a top prospect like Lafreniere playing for the Rangers but as a Wings fan it's pretty disappointing. Hopefully Lucas Raymond and Zadina can make up for passing on Quinn Hughes and losing Lafreniere.

Quebec hasn't had a big star since... I can't even remember. Sounds like that's where the bounties are coming from. There was Lecavalier for a very brief period of time... but realistically has it been since Roy/Lemieux?

Pre-selling for $300+ CAD raw. Yowza. Quite a few established names in the undervalued Young Guns thread deserve to be selling for more than this.

I totally get the reasons why, shiny new toy, first ones to market, great prospect, big market team, Quebec superstar, etc. But the difference in price between hyped rookies vs proven players can be quite mind blowing.

The hockey market is fascinating

Umm

I definitely could be wrong, and no disrespect to Lafrenière, but on a scale of Yakupov to McDavid, he’s probably closer to a Jack Hughes.

None that you have listed is French-Canadian. I hope he’s everything that he’s hyped to be. The hockey card market needs it.

I hope he does well too. My point is that he still has lots to prove. If things do work out and he becomes a superstar, it will be interesting to see if he develops a following in Quebec...and the bounty certainly indicates that there could be some serious hobby interest. This is pretty much uncharted territory for a French-Canadian who never played for the Habs. Brodeur comes to mind as a non-Hab French-Canadian with some Quebec based hobby love, but I can’t think of an example with a player who can light the light.

Time will tell! In the meantime, here’s to hoping I pull a Lafrenière high gloss.

Will this bump Crosby/Ovie and other YG's all up again or does Laf settle down in the next couple days?

Dang, now that's a lot of coin. I've seen a ton of them today.

I think his YG will settle, but I've learned very quickly to not predict anything during this crazy 2020 hobby landscape we all find ourselves in.

Mario Lemieux?? Vinny Lecavalier had a nice following at some moment too.

Guys like Luc Robitaille and Martin St-Louis were great at scoring goals, but they never caught that much hobby love.

Saw my first case and it was pretty good. 1 Alexies, 2 YG Acetates and 3 French YG. Anyone else notice that a lot of the YGS are curved in the corners? Seems to be another printing issue like the roller marks a few years back.

YOU can add a guy named Mike Bossy to the list!

Touché on both counts!

Maybe it's just me, but as a former Quebecer, I didn't have a strong connection to Brodeur like I did with Roy or Lemieux and I think a lot of 'us' felt that way too.

The 2 Stanley Cups of Roy with the Habs marked the history in Québec. I'll always remember the 1993 Cup. Lemieux was an exceptionnal talent and playing forward. Brodeur was a great goalie, but he had his wins in a US market, while Roy was winning locally.
