It has been a busy year, certainly in unexpected ways as our hobby deals with the effects of Covid 19. We've seen an explosion of podcasts and other online offerings, which have kept me energized and excited about the cards I am collecting. This year I have branched out into many new areas (for me), and purchased cards on various platforms. After resisting for many, many years, I actually joined Facebook in order to participate in all the hockey card action there, and of course we had two Virtual Expo events this year. As in past years some of the pages will contain groups of cards with a common theme.
Here are my Top 10 for 2020.

I was able to pick up two more mini busts from 2002-03 Upper Deck Classic Portraits. Nice to be able to find these after so many years have gone by.

Here is a sample of some of the cards I bought on various platforms this year. The Engrained card came from Instagram, bonus was that the card was offered to me (no hunting) and I was able to get a vouch for the seller from a source I trust. The Facebook card (SOTT #/5) came from a local seller, again with vouches from people I trust. The Lemieux card (Pinnacle Zenith 1996-97) came from COMC, and I was able to put together the entire 15 card set. I've been having fun chasing older sets, and just recently finished the 92 card 2012 Panini Molson Canadian Stanley Cup Collection. The Monahan card was purchased from Jeremy at the last Virtual Expo, thanks bud! Finally, the Prime Colors patch card comes from a HI deal with unt0uch4bl3, awesome card and great HI member to deal with.

Some of my pack pulled cards. I don't buy a lot of boxes, but for some reason the 2018-19 Clear Cut boxes held a strange attraction for me. Might have something to do with the Orr auto I pulled in late 2019.

Stature had such great looking cards, I really enjoyed chasing these. I did see two of the other 1/1 cards, but with one of them listed at $1300 USD on eBay I didn't even consider going after them. The patch/auto #/3 has been on it's way to me from Europe since the first week of November, hoping it shows up soon.

The 2004 Stanley Cup Finals were a mind blowing event for me. The energy from the crowd in the Saddledome seemed to flow into my basement as I watched the games. When I saw this puck listed on eBay it was a no brainer for me, I had to have it.

ITG Ultimate Memorabilia has always been a favorite of mine, and I continue to add on to my Yzerman pc whenever I get a chance. I also have a small Sakic pc, that Emblem card sure is a beauty!

Dr. Price has been producing some awesome cards with his President's Choice brand. Already having a Hall of Fame card for Iginla is a real bonus, and those Equipped cards are just outstanding!

Here's a perfect example of how shows like Sports Cards Live can impact the hobby and our collecting activities. I had never heard of Topps Project 2020 before listening to Jeremy and Barrie talk about it. When I looked on eBay and saw the Ted Williams card by JK5 it instantly became a favourite of mine, and I decided to build his 20 card set. I've managed to order all of them, just waiting for the last few to arrive.

Here we are at #1. It is a sketch by my good friend and fellow Iginla collector, Jayden (hen44jay). This sketch is about 2 1/2 feet wide and 2 feet tall, and is based on an idea called sketchnoting. Jayden and I discussed this project for quite awhile, our biggest problem was deciding what to cut out so that the images wouldn't become overwhelming. Jarome Iginla had a Hall of Fame career, thanks to Jayden I get to enjoy looking at highlights every day. This is now framed and up on the wall in my den. Thanks again bud!

I want to add an extra page this year, as a way of saying thank you to some special people. I'll start by thanking Chris (forsberg21), a fellow Iginla collector and good friend almost from the day I joined HI. So many hard to find Iginla cards came from Chris (eg. Topps C55 Bazooka back), and I've lost track of how many cards he's sold me. :beer:
I want to acknowledge Jason's (chefjason) brother, who I met on Instagram. He contacted me about a deal on some Upper Deck lamps, and I now have one of the dual stack lamps on my desk.
A huge thank you to Steve Menzie (Sports Card Expo/Virtual Expo) who donated the Tyson Barrie jersey for a contest that I was fortunate to win on an episode of Sports Cards Live.
Another shout out to Jayden (hen44jay) for the quad sott card. We talk a fair bit about Iginla cards, and that quad auto card was something we had discussed earlier this year. Jayden had his copy, but I was still looking for mine. Early one morning this card popped up on eBay with a decent bin price. Jayden sent in an offer and got it for an even better price, then he notified me that he'd found the card and it was mine if I wanted it. Well, I couldn't pay him fast enough for that one. :thumbsup:
I've really enjoyed listening to Eric (HammerHawks) and Aaron's (creasecollector) Center Ice Card Cast podcast. It is so cool to connect with other collectors, not only by seeing their cards, but now hearing them talk about their collections as well.
Jeremy's Sports Cards Live show is a must watch for me. So many outstanding guests, and great information passed along as well. Who could have imagined a year ago that we would have an opportunity to interact with some of the giants in the industry.
Both of these shows bring a whole new level of enjoyment to the hobby for me.
