Hi all,

Not sure if you are aware, but in Topps packs for baseball there are Home Run Challenge cards of many different players. There is a scratch code on it and you on their website and predict your player hitting a home run on a certain day. If you are correct, in 2 or so months you get a numbered card of that player in the mail. There is also a "double down" option where if a player hits a longer home run (I think 430 feet or farther) you get a lower numbered card.

Would this concept work for hockey? I think it would be super fun. I know UD had Predictor cards with certain dates back in the day of players, but having the choice on when to use it like Topps does is more fun.

Interesting... it would be fun, but how do they get around the 'game of chance' aspect given you are receiving a material reward... maybe it's because you have to use skill in the prediction aspect...

I think the infrastructure on a daily prize would be tough (having an interface that is updated and receiving inputs every day sounds like a lot of coding work). I'd try it though if they could bring it to hockey.

Here is all the details in a nutshell:

…wouldn’t this just be a redo of You Crash The Game predictors?

You Crash had specific dates, these Topps ones don’t. Also, the Topps one you get a numbered card of the player who hit the homer, must numbered under 200.

It's a beefed up version of "You Crash The Game" - If I'm reading right.

YCTG - If a player scored on the date that was listed on the card, you won.

I think it would be pretty easy (if UD wanted to) to do something similar to what you described that Topps is doing. Pick the game you think your player will score. You could work in better prizes for multi goal (hat trick?) games, or if his goal was the game winner.

I'm only using your comment as a spring board for mine, so please don't take it that I'm being aggressive toward your comment specifically.

When we throw out terms like "pretty easy", we should think about what means... UD is having production issues getting planned sets out due to the manufacturing process, has difficulty responding to all consumer questions and redemptions and other concerns hobbyists have brought up... what about adding something in with unpredictability and an increased level of customer service with little payoff to UD would be easy?

I'll admit, I don't know much about what goes on behind closed doors at UD, but everything about this screams a lot of work and headache to the manufacturer with little to no business/ bottom line payoff.

I suspect this was more a reference to ease of design. Execution is its own monster these days.

Given the mess that HR Challenge has become over the last few days where Topps has voided correct winners because they were "entered" incorrectly since they supposedly require that the date be entered the day before the game without any idea if they're playing or not... but because of a system glitch.

In any case, it's turned into a total mess and reports are Topps/Fanatics CS couldn't care less - so execution will be important, because hiding behind a loophole and saying RTFM ain't going to cut it
