Hi Folks,

I am at a crossroads of my PC. Every year I go through it and I get rid of stuff that doesn't elicit a positive emotional response. Stuff that I am neutral on, I put back in the box. Stuff that I am not caring for either goes to COMC or shows.

I came across a box of vintage mem that I've had on my shelf. I've gone through twice and still cannot arrive at a decision.

I have mem pieces from players like Joliat, Hainsworth, Sawchuk etc.. They've not gone up tremendously in value since I got them many eons ago. The younger collecting crowd does not value some of these guy as much as I find we did. For the most part I hung onto these for investment value at the time.

What do you guys think?

Should I sent to COMC or hold?

I think I would send them to COMC.

Every half year or so, I go through my collection as well to take stock of where I'm at. I usually end up moving quite a bit of what is in there because, well, there's very few cards where I see myself holding on to them for a long, long, long time. Plus, if they're replaceable, I'll be able to get another copy down the line.

Even more so if I bought a card for investment purposes. If you bought it and held it for investment purposes and it hasn't worked out the way you hoped it would, I would probably move them, get what you can, and go from there. But, that's a judgment call - if you see them appreciating more down the line, then a hold is in order here!

Ultimately, if they're genuinely PC, keep them! Nothing wrong with holding on to them and kicking the can down the line again. But, if they're just cool to have and you'd rather have the cash, I'd move on from them.

Hope this helps!

As per my usual rambling, I'd be interested to see anything from 2002-03 ITG Parkhurst Retro (thinking the "Nicknames" subset).

My other two PC (2003-04 ITG Action and 2002-03 BAP First Edition) don't have any "vintage" so nothing to see there.

G'luck on parring down the collection and filtering out anything that doesn't bring joy. :)

Part of the answer is in what would you do with the cash from the sales? If you have some debts or projects, sell sell sell! If you're not in a hurry, test the market, list the items at a price you're OK selling at and see what happens.

Outside of the card world, I sold my ATV last week. I was using it only a few hours per year. It was taking place in my garage and I had to put time to take care of it. I found a good home for it, I don't miss it, I appreciate the place in my garage and if at some point I need an ATV in the future, I'll be able to buy something more modern and fitting to my actual needs. The next one to go is the snowmobile, I'll list it soon.

Sell while the people who are interested are still alive lol

Morbid take, but quite true. :P

Age 50 is on the horizon, and the cards I p.c. are already 20+ years old ... so, I sometimes wonder what my son will do with these cards in another 20-25 years when I'm gone and the cards are 40-50 years old by then. :P

Ripe old age of 75 is my "expectation" at this point - if my 75 looks like it does for my Father right now, I hope I'm dead and bloated by then.

Maybe I'm the morbid one lol.

Ding, ding, ding.

Make them attractive to those people. You know what you bought them for and you know how much they've gone up. Sell them at a comfortable price for you and a price those buyers will appreciate and not pass up.

I often think about this. I've moved most everything that wasn't Luongo, and it got me thinking....

What the hell are my kids going to do with a massive Roberto Luongo collection? Will they even be able to sell it? Will there come a time that cards that were 40 or 50 years old mean nothing?

Unless someone is THE best, or is connected to a big market, are any of these "investments" worth it?

I collect cause its a hobby and I enjoy the time I spend on it. I've become super focused now, and one thing I've started to really think about is what am I going to do when it's all over??

Everything you said above is EXACTLY what I thought one night a few years ago. I still buy and flip but my PC is down to about 40 cards that will NOT be passed down to my kids because they simply won't care.

I left three names and numbers with my wife for her to contact when I become just a picture on someone's wall and those people will sell what's in my PC and get the money to my kids. In a few years' time, I hope that it's an incredible 40-card lot that does well for them. No monster boxes of cards that they are clueless about.

Alrighty.. Off to COMC it goes. Thanks Gang.
I've even parted with most of my Wendel Clark collection. He is a legend but most of the kids won't know who he was. I saved a few choice pieces..

I've done the same. I have given a contact number to my wife to reach out if need be. My kids don't like cards, they like digital things.. Its safe that I will use the money for retirement which I am hoping will be well before i am 70 lol

Good choice - good to Marie Kondo this **** before it's too late. If it don't bring joy, say noy! (I just made that up, just whateva)

From a seasoned veteran, I would love to hear your thoughts on why you decided not to post them here? They were probably out of my league anyways, I just thought this was a good place to start...

Hey Bro..

The number one reason is that its a pain in the *** to scan the photo, upload to a photo sharing service and then post here. I have made thousands of transactions on FB/Instagram that will let me push a photo live instantly..

However HI does have a FB page so I can post pics there... That will be easy enough to do. Nothing I have should break banks.. then again.. if you include piggy banks, ok you might be right.

OK I posted a few of them on HI Facebook group. Now I need to go enjoy my wine while listening to some tunes on the record player.
