Thanks Lu, it's a fun way to review my 2023 activities. #5 to make an appearance very shortly.

Today's card at #5 shows a connection first made on eBay and continued on Instagram. It is a perfect example to reflect the last sentence that I wrote, how one card can represent a larger group of cards from a good friend who has helped me out on multiple occasions.

Back in January of 2023 I discovered a group of amazing eBay auctions for Iginla cards. There were some 1/1 cards, as well as the Patch/Tag #2/2 from 2012/13 Artifacts. I won the auctions and made contact with the seller, Mike Ashmore (@mashmore98 on IG). From that initial contact we expanded to a connection on Instagram. Mike had a lot of top end Iginla cards, as well as some very nice Glencross cards. We did several deals, including one that included 16 Panini printing plates. This Glencross card is a representative of those deals and the cards that came my way from Mike.

Coming in at #4 is this complete group of printing plates from 2006/07 The Cup. I first met Casey aka str8jkt back in 2008 at a local trading night hosted by Maple Leaf Sports. Casey introduced me to Hobby Insider, before that I was very private with my collecting, and didn't know more than a handful of other local collectors. We both collected Iginla cards, so we did some trading, and down through the years as Casey downsized his collection I would buy cards from him. We lost touch after a while, as Casey was no longer active on HI. Fast forward to this year, when Casey contacted me on Instagram. He was looking to sell some more Iginla cards, and he had quite a few that I needed. We got together for lunch and worked out a deal, with the cards being handed over to me, so no worries about sending them through the mail.

Thanks Casey, you've been a tremendous help to my collecting activities!

I know these are basically interchangable Al, but #7 is my favorite so far. Looking forward to the final 3!

Card #3 is this Steve Yzerman Priority Signings #2/5 from the Universal Distribution 2014 Summit. This event took place on August 25, 2014 in Montreal. The following information was available on the company's Facebook (Meta) page.

"Each company will be presenting their upcoming releases and discussing their business programs in detail. All companies are graciously providing gifts and promotional items to all attending retailers."

Part of what appealed to me about this card was being able to tie it to a particular event that is part of our hobby history. I've also been fortunate to pull in several versions of Priority Signings for my Iginla pc over the years, and always enjoyed looking at the cards.

This card was purchased earlier this year at a local show that was promoted by Maple Leaf Sports. Thank you Darren for providing us with opportunities to find cards like this at the local level.

Card #2 brought a Gretzky auto into my collection, only the second one that I own. It comes from a trade that I did on Meta with Derek aka Mankind Mason. He is an admin with one of the Calgary Flames groups that I'm a member of on Meta. Derek also collects Iginla cards, so when he acquired the Gretzky card he reached out to me to ask if we could work out a trade. Just goes to show how important it is to make connections in different online platforms.

I had resisted joining fb (Meta) for a long time, but with so much hockey card activity I felt that I had to jump on board. I still remember what happened in March of 2019. Jeremy Lee reached out to me regarding an Iginla Black Tie Affair #1/1 card that was for sale. I told Jeremy that I wasn't a member, so he offered to pass along my offer. I didn't get the card, but remember thinking at the time that the card might as well have been on another planet, I didn't have any "direct" involvement with the sale process. That's when I decided to join fb (Meta).

Wow the build up to #1 is great! Looking forward to what card could beat the previous 9 beauties. My faves have been the 4 colour patch and the Gretzky card but of course I do love ones that complete sets! Thanks for sharing so far!

Thanks, this is a fun way for me to review my yearly purchases. I love them all, but my #1 card really got me excited!

Here is the card (with the rest of the group) that I consider to be my #1 card from 2023. It was the least expensive of the 10 cards I've shown, but the excitement level was off the charts for me. I purchased the first card from this group in October of 2012, so this is the culmination of an eleven year journey for me. The "G" showed up on eBay earlier this year and allowed me to finish the nameplate. Panini did a great job with these letters!

Thanks for following along and for all of your comments.

Wow, what a top 10! Congrats on landing that G.

Thanks Scott! I was quite surprised to see the G after all those years. What a great feeling to complete the nameplate.

What a sweet way to finish a top 10! Congrats once again on the completed game-used nameplate. Not an easy task!

Thanks Aaron! Completing the nameplate after 12 years does feel amazing!
